here are my 686s first pic is my 3inch which I have the box and all for.it is not marked cs-1.I think it was a overrun production.I paid $325 for it.the store priced it as a used regular 686. and my snubby.which was unfired till I shot it. then is my 4 inchers.the wood griped one was with box and all and unfired till I shot it.it was a older guys home gun and when he died his wife pawned it.the other is a used one that I shoot alot.then is my 6 incher and this one will shoot any bullet weight in a one jagged little one hole.it is a dream to fire.it came with the box no kit.

I don't own a 686, but I wish I did. I really like the 3-inch/no lock! I do own a 696 though.

I think CS-1's are all bead blasted. I wouldn't mind owning a 686+ at some point but the asking price around my area is just nonsense to me. I just can't see how they are going for the $800 and up tags as new guns. I paid less than that for my 28. But I agree with you and you have a great collection.

I do!

You stole that 3 incher, well done. Fine guns you've got there. My 686 is a dash four 4 inch and it's one of my favorite shooters.

they were bead blasted.this one is a factory 3 incher that is why I belive it was a overrun after the contract was filled.

Very nice!

I ONLY LIKE those old guns. ;) My 3" CS1 has a trigger that rivals my PC pre lock 586-5 L-comp.

Enjoy your "old guns"! :) Regards 18DAI.

Naaaah. No one here likes those "old guns".

Just to keep you from being further embarrassed, send me a PM with your address and I'll ship you $100 each for them and you can buy some "new" plastic guns with that money. I'll even be generous and pay you the $325. you have into the 3"er. Just think, you could get TWO WHOLE GLOCKS for that kind of money. :)

Nice collection of "L"s there my friend. Thinking you have a -4 for the 2.5" and looks like -3 or earlier for the others (just going by hammer colors). All you need now is to get a couple, or one, of the 7 shooters and you're even more set. Or...considering your "handle"...how about adding a 696 L frame .44 special to the mix to round them out. Or a 617 .22 full lug. Or... (it's a sickness Brother, I'm sure you understand :) )

NICE, NICE guns there. Thanks for sharing them.

Figured right then. Knew the -4 snub as I have a "cousin" if you will that I got thru the forum LNIB about 2 months ago. Didn't pay anywhere near $325 for it I'll admit. :)

Actually (and nothing personal here!) I prefer the one that came before it: The Model 66 Combat Magnum! But those 686s are sure nice though. Dale

I certainly love my 6-inch no dash, even though I have never fired it. I think I traded a 66 for it at some gun show around 20-years ago. I preferred the long barrels in those days. Wish I had kept the 66 too.

Mine has those old crappy wood grips....I need to through it away I guess, but it looks like big brother in the safe right beside the 617 no dash.

I just got one last week and I have been too busy with work to take it out to the range.
So far I really like everything about it , fit /finish etc.
Paid $500, a bit pricy but in these current times not too bad.
The Python is just in the pic for comparison from a different thread.

I personally think the L frame is the perfect platform, I have a 696-2 and a 686-5, and neither one of them is going anywhere. I really like your 3", got to find one of those. Take care...

...like 'em? I love 'em!

Congratulations on the family of 686's and I have a 6 inch no dash that I really like. At 67 shooting full house 357's in a K frame is not my idea of a good time like I did when I was in my 40's so I traded my no dash model 66 with box and tools for an mint S serial number 4 inch 28-2 and I gave an extra $50 on the deal.

i love a 686 and own four of the barrel length's...but old??S&W still sells a ton of 686's!

Personally I can't stand 'em, somehow tho' they just keep replicating around here.
Actually I think they are one of the best idea's S&W ever came out with, the 4" I bought NIB in '86 it's had probably 5K rounds fired thru it, just a great older, accurate firearm, the others I've picked up over the years, the 2 1/2" with the factory stocks is still NIB, I believe it is a -3 the one with custom stocks is a -5, both the 6" and 4" are -1's.

I bought this 686 no dash new in 1982. I've had a lot of guns come and go since then, but this one stays no matter what. IMO, probably the best all around, all purpose revolver there is.
