Unfortunately, the 5906 I wanted did not work out, but I believe the reason was because I ended up with a very nice 6906 for under $500!
A quick price check here and there, and it looks like I did real good, so I can't wait to pick it up.

I'd love to hear from you owners out there and your different experiences both good and bad, as well as possible holster ideas.

Mine lives in a Bianchi #7L (a right haned holster). Easily one of my favorite firearms.

These days I prefer shoulder holsters. I guess I should get one for this guy.

I think I actually have an older shoulder holster that will work, but was looking for some OWB old school leather, as these can be had for less.

Have a 6946 DA0 and a 469. Perfect size for carry and can take 59 mags or larger extended mags. The 6946 double action is great! Smith should have made all the 3rd gens DAO

You will probably be happier with the 6906 than the 5906 when it comes to carrying. The 6906 weighs 26.5 ounces vs the 5906 at 38 ounces. The 6906 is a fine shooter and easy to maintain.

MTR Custom Leather's Belt Slide Master Carry (C-2) is a good OWB choice for your 6906. It is a pancake style with a forward cant for good concealment. It's made of bull's hide so it will last.

Buy a quality holster with good retention rather than some cheap holster that will have your firearm flopping around on your hip within a short time.

Mine also rides in a Bianchi 7L at 3:00 on my hip. A very nice choice for a metal handgun in my opinion. My 4516 and the 6906 are my most often carried firearm in the winter months. The Shield 45 takes over in warmer weather when the jackets & vests go away.

I think you're going to love the 6906 as a carry and range gun. Mine typically carries a 5906 magazine withe the Peirce adaptor, as seen here. 15 +1 instead of 12+1.

Good choice. I found the 5906 simply too heavy for concealed carry. The 6906 and 6946 much better suited. (Liked the DAO so much I put the 6906 slide atop the 6946 frame so I have the additional safety I like and it's still DAO.)

And when I sent a 5946TSW to a member here for some work, he suggested I convert it to SA/DA. I did and he did such a great job on it I sold my 5906 as they are the same gun after the change and the TSW is just a bit more "refined(?)".

(And now that you have a 6906, wait a few days and the fever to get a 3913 or 14 will hit...and after that you'll be looking for a Chief's Special in 9, 40, and 45, and then...and then...and then.)

Good luck with you new acquisition.

The compact double stacks are great. As was already stated they make more sense for carry than a 5906.

I have the Precision Gun Specialties +2 adaptors for my 9 and 40 compact double stacks. They work on both. One of them is pictured on a 4006 magazine. In fact I ordered four more today. Who knows how much longer they will be available.

I got this outstanding, (used,) OWB Aker on EBay for $28.00 total but that was a few years ago.

I could not decide if I liked, Them or not so I bought 2 of them. I did like them. Both of them have the squared trigger guard. I think I paid about $ 340.00 for each of them. I carried one of them off duty for a while. Holsters are hard to find for them. I finally found one at a gun show.

Did you order from their website? I wasnt sure if they were still around - I didnt see an online ordering option, just a printable order form.

Yep called them.

I was thinking I better get some more if available so I sent them an email last Thursday. I received a reply today to just call them which I did.

They are still available, Heather is very nice.

LEO and FFL discounts.

Bought mine from CDNN years ago, around $289. Been carrying it ever since.

is the pierce adapter like the S&W 24212 adapter, or a simple slide on sleeve? I ask because the factory 24212 won't work with the MecGar 17 round magazines, only the 15 round versions.

I carried a 6906 as one of my uniform duty guns for many years before switching to a 3913. The 6906 was the perfect size and weight, and with 5900 magazines and a magazine adapter, held the same number of rounds as a 5906 but with less weight. I used a high-ride duty holster and had no difficulties with catching on seats, etc.
I used mostly IWB for off-duty when I carried the 6906, but that was not an every-day practice.
All in all, I think you made a great decision to get it and I think you'll enjoy its features and big-gun ability in a compact size.
By the way: the adapters are made by Precision Gun Specialties and go for $10 each. I had them not only on the mag in my gun, but also my 2 spares in the pouch. Because of their contoured shape, you can easily use them concealed, too. Look for "Plus 2".
