Does anyone happen to know off hand if the magazines that fit a 4506-1(eight round) will work in a S&W 1911? Specifically, the "billboard" model? I've been offered one at what I consider a good price in excellent condition, but with only one magazine. Also, any thing to watch out for on these models? Any help appreciated!

Love my billboard to death. It came with two Wilson mags new. I have no idea if the 4506 mag will fit but doubt it. Stick to the Wilsons, they are available and don't cost an arm and a leg.
Nothing to watch out for IMO. Well made and extremely reliable. Mine shoots whatever I feed it. Thousands of rounds thru it. You won't be unhappy. What's the price?

$800ish...I know nothing about 1911's, is that a decent price for that gun?

It's been a while, but as I recall, 4506 size mags will not fit a 1911. However, as said above, any full size 1911 mag will work.

1911 mags are about as common as they come, and are fairly inexpensive compared to some other mags. I would just stay with decent quality brands such as wilson, tripp etc.

However, as said above, any full size 1911 mag will work.

Well...at the risk of being picky, I'd have to say that while any full-size single stack 1911 magazine should fit, not all of them will work well in your gun. Even some mags that are generally considered the best and most reliable haven't worked well in some individual guns.

Generally speaking, Wilson makes excellent magazines. So does Chip McCormick. I've also had good results with Kim Pro Tac Mags. I'd advise you to buy one of a particular mag, try it in your gun, and if it works well, buy some more. Be sure to buy from a maker who has a good warranty program (which Wilson does.)

Bingo. To answer your question, 4506 mags don't work in a 1911. Nope, if I understand what I've read in the past.

That is excellent advice!

1911s mags and 4506 mags are different size overall, won't interchange.

If you read any of the previous posts, you might notice that the magazine question has been answered three times already; thanks anyway.:D

I paid 600 and change for mine three years ago and it was NIB. I got an exceptional deal. A friend who buys 1911s like I buy beer purchased it new in '03 and put it away. I am its first shooter. The sales slip included with it indicated that I paid what it had originally cost. I don't know what they go for these days - some don't like them for the aesthetics of the billboard - but I sure wouldn't sell mine for 800. I am told the first versions of these pistols had lots of high dollar custom parts from third party makers like Wilson until S and W could get their ducks in a row to make the entire gun. Mine has been accurate and absolutely trouble free. It was my first 1911. 800 might be a bit high but you are getting a great pistol. If I knew what I know now and the price was 800 I'd pay it.
