A early winter

I don't know about it going to be a hard winter, but it's got the makin's of a early winter....Here it is a perfectly beautiful early September day. Blue sky, no clouds, perfect temp, and I heard and saw the geese flying south. And it's the middle of the afternoon, instead of night when they usually fly.

The corn and beans are turning. So it won't be long they're going to be ready to be combined.

Saw that there's a forecast for snow in six states over this week-end.....

It's look'n like I better get my Union suit out of storage.

Saw a flight of about thirty Canadas headed south this morning. I pay attention to that sort of thing. The critters know.

Big red-oak acorn crop on the grounds here this time, after an almost total failure last year. I imagine we'll be up to our watch pockets in little thug panhandler squirrels come spring.

I lived in the Ft. Collins area for 21 years and there was only 3 months out of the year that I never seen snow at that elevation (around 4,900 ft.). those months were June , July and August. I seen snow around memorial day and labor day there so I don't put much stock on bad a winter is going to be when you get the first snow.

Here in the Ozarks it was 90 something yesterday, but only got up to about 70 today. Plum chilly. I really don't like hot weather anymore. Makes me think about deer season when it first cools down a bit. Probably be back up to 100 in a couple of days.

I live in the middle of the woods, and there literally wasn't acorn one last year around here; don't remember the last time I'd seen that. Had a harder than usual winter though.

We are shipping 22 truck loads of heifers out of the ranch the first week of Oct. There will be snow there between now and then.
Well maybe not, I'm not in charge of scheduling the trucks anymore.

I have to agree with the OP on this one. The leaves started to turn and fall here in my section of PA some time ago and the tamed whitetail I have (bought her ten years ago from a deer farm at one day old) completely lost her summer coat over a month ago. That, in and of itself, was really early this year and is one sure sign that something is amiss.

Rub it in. Our "low"yesterday was 82 in the morning and only because thunderstorms were in the area. By 4 PM--not any clouds around and we were at 97.

One thing ill add is--that eary inthe morning when imout walking (but still have to be in shade to feelthe diff) is that I am beginning to juuuuuust feel a slight cooler tint in the shade and have noticed for the most part--the winds are starting to blow from the North East instead of usual South. Still humid as all heck though.

I did taxidermy for years and always noticed that the hair in the ears of early archery season killed whitetails would be heavy and filled in on a bad winter year but thin and almost not there if the winter was mild...I quit doing it years ago but have noticed that the raccoons on my trail cameras look as if they already have most of their winter fur. The Tupelo trees leaves are already red and the turkeys have flocked up already. All this is good...personally I love winter. The longer the better.

Hush....I am not ready for that beautiful white nasty stuff...Along with the ice coupled here with the hills....High heating bills, heavy clothing, and all of the nasty stuff associated with winter.....Having said all of that have a nice fall.......A wonderful Winter and may the master of all things weather included send you our beautiful snow..It would be a real disappointment but just for you we will give up our snow for you....

Winter, with all it's snow and cold winds are nice........LOOKING OUT FROM MY FRONT WINDOW.ll

Winter was always nice at Christmas time, down in Phoenix...Grilling steaks, taking a dip in the pool...(It was a heated pool though). Driving around Paradise Valley and Scottsdale at night looking at some of the drive ways, with the Luminaries lit.

I was there a few years that the valley did get snow though...

A person could always tell the snow birds from the locals though...The snow birds didn't wear coats..

Won't be long, and the rattlers will be out on the roads in the early morning, trying to warm up, from the night before, before they do go into hibernation.


Speaking of the Valley, any of you that are still down there, remember going to Legend City?

It's been weird in El Paso. June and July were brutal; unremittingly hot. In August it bgan to cloud over and rain. Now it's cool, and I'm wearing a long sleeved shirt. This doesn't usually happen until mid to late October. Wonder what the winter will be like.

Sunny and 65°. It snowed there once in the 10 years that I lived there. Absolutely brutal winters. Should be down in that neck of the woods sometime in Feb. this year.

wonder why......Border jumpers, cross over in Texas, and California, then beat a bee line to such inclement places as Chicago in the winter..Now I certainly can understand crossing or ending up in the warm climate places like Ca. Texas, and Florida. Throw in Arizona and southern New Mexico...but Chicago, New York , and other places with .inclement weather.....Only a nut case would come to St. Louis in February. Plus they could easily be shot by all the random shooting in the core city..Well I guess it must remind them of Juarez...
