A Question for "Team 3rd Gen"...

It's a damn shame that the CZ's are out of reach for you, TTSH.

The basic 'ol CZ 75B takes up where the 3rd Gen left off.

My 5906 is great, but my matte stainless CZ 75B has it beat, with the extra feature that it can be carried cocked and locked like a 1911, or, like a DA/SA 5906.

I came to CZ's late, but with 3rd Gens gone, I'm pretty sure that I'll be adding more.
Believe me, I get it. :) I read the reviews and reports. They still allow us to do that here in MA. :p

I was actually hoping that my new indoor range would have one there for us to try... but no luck.

Okay, I'll give you more comments, old guy to old guy...
Don't talk to Bam-Bam or read about his formula. :( It will only make you depressed. ;)

OTOH, there was a gun I had a passion for that that I did just buy, and it's a shocker:

It is a Precision Small Arms Baby Browning in .25 ACP. Why? Why not? One of the most cool little gun items I have ever seen! To get one that is pristine and for half the price, well, I couldn't resist.
Very cool indeed... but, of course, 100% illegal (for dealer sale/transfer) in MA. :(

Anyway, I get what you're saying... and I hope you do get that Shield just to try it out. Between the wife and me, we own two of them... although I might sell one soon just because we have other similar small plastic gun options. :)

well my first choice would be a MINIGUN ....but I hear keeping ammo on hand is a problem......so I am considering another compact .45 and since Shorty .45's are difficult to come by I am leaning toward an H&K .45 compact like 18DAI.......I thought the P245 was going to fill that role but in my hand it just doesn't feel balanced right:(......oddly enough I like it as a range toy but not to CC:rolleyes:

......................and I am going to look for another AMT .22 auto-mag....I had one some time back and it was a little troublesome....but with all the kitchen table Bubba gunsmithing skills I have acquired :D.....I want to try it again....that thing was a ton 'O' fun when it worked like it should;)

Still not fully understanding the reasoning behind this thread,........

Slowly having worked its way up to the top of my shopping list,.....Beretta 96D, the DAO version of the M92 in .40S&W. Reason for wanting it,........I have twenty magazines for it and they don't fit anything else. I did just pick up a 92D(because I had twenty magazines and a beautiful set of grips for that). Didn't really care whether I found the 9mm or .40 first but my LGS had a nice 92D on the rack at $300 on sale. Still have bids in on a couple of 96D's but they've been going a bit too high lately.

The question of what I'm looking to buy next changes almost daily. Other than 3rd Gens I've been on a revolver kick for the last year or so and only occasionally pick up an off-brand auto, but that's mostly due to the lack of available DAO autos. FWIW, I really like the Beretta Cougar and am still buying up 8040D's when they show up at a good price. BTW, although similar, 92 series mags and Cougar mags are not interchangeable which is why I ended up with forty 92/96 mags and nothing that takes them. I bought the magazines on speculation that I could easily convert them to fit the Cougars and then didn't.

So is this thread about what we're planning to buy next or just what we'd buy in place of 3rd Gens if 3rd Gens weren't available?

For not understanding the purpose of the thread, you did great! :)

The principal purpose of the thread was to have a little fun and get some conversation going among the 3rd Gen crowd. :) Things have been a little quiet lately. ;)

The secondary purpose was to seek out some ideas about where folks collecting/accumulating interests lie outside of the 3rd Gen realm and what they might want to buy next if not a 3rd Gen? It was not necessarily or specifically about 3rd Gen replacements, but it could have been if that's where your interests would have taken you. :) I am at a point (See Post #39) where those ideas and thoughts are helpful to me. :)

Hey TTSH, you called me out for a mistake when I was sober today. Now I see a violation and you cut him a huss. What gives?

Mine is going to be an HK45c. Same capacity as my 4566/4506-1 and similar in size and weight to my 4513TSW and 457. Same accuracy and reliability. Not as nice a trigger, but a much better trigger than anything currently produced by s&w.

And unlike my 3rd gen 45's, I won't care what happens to the HK45c. Regards 18DAI

I've got to ask, but have you tried an M&P with an Apex kit? I just got a 9mm with the Apex kit and it has as good a trigger now as a Walther PPQ. Very definable wall and a really good SA like break.

Speaking of which, the PPQ now comes in .45ACP. 12 rounds of .45 in the grip of a 9mm/.40 (the grip is taller, but not wider).

Either will have a better trigger than any HK 45c...
...and be just as disposable...

Same can be done with HK. They have different trigger configurations as well, including a 1911 style cocked and locked with thumb safety.

HK are for the most part the hight of durability and reliability. I can't speak personally for the HK 45 but their USP 45 are near indestructible. During testing, a bullet was deliberately lodged in a USP barrel. Another cartridge was then fired into the obstructing bullet. The second bullet cleared the barrel, resulting in a barely noticeable bulge. The pistol was then fired for accuracy and the resulting group measured less than 4 inches at 25 meter. Temperature testing required the USP be frozen to −42 °C and fired, frozen again, and then be heated up to 67 °C and fired. These temperature tests were continually repeated with no adverse effects on the USP. The USP 45 is rated for 45 super with only a change of recoil spring.

3rd Genitis Junkie

I'm on the prowl for a lightweight 9mm pistol that is somewhat smaller, thinner, and lighter than my 6906. The M&P Shield is possibly that gun.

Yoda,

Gotta Love Those 3914 Lady Smith's!!!

Just like their bigger brother's (4566), they will feed and eat empty 9mm brass!
:)

I know the spiel, and I've owned several modern H&Ks with regular, LEM, and match trigger. None of the triggers are close to being good or great. And compared to his 4566TSW, all except maybe the .45 M&P are an upgrade on reliability.

If the gun didn't have a $2500+ frame safety on an $800 gun it would be a Beretta Centennial

I'd like to say Sig P220, 225, 226, 228, 229, etc.
BUT, I'm left handed and they're not.
So, I'd have to say 29-2 with a 6" tube.
That, or a 24/624.
I like .44s.

I'm a south paw too. Never had a problem with firing and reloading anything from .22's to Ma Duece's. Now revolvers are a pain in the azz to reload. But a friend showed me a trick. Put my right thumb thru the frame pressing the cylinder to stop it from rotating. All those years avoiding wheel guns. DUH !
