A small request please....

Well i'm guilty of gimpy grammar sometimes and i admit it. Sometimes my fungers get all fimbled up. I guess at my age thats the least of my worries. Going to bed at nine and having to get back up at 11 is really irritating!

All I know is, if some of you southern folks write like you talk, some up in the northern parts find it hard to understand you.
We jus tryin to sav sayin or ritin al them exter letrs that dont do nuthn but clutr up the plac an mak talkin hardr an slowr.
Basides, them up thare in the northrn parts aint nevr gona unnerstan us anyhow no mater how we talk. ;) :D:D

Folks on gun forums love discussing heirlooms. Did you know there are also airlooms and harelooms?
I've seen those. They're probably worth more. ;)
Don't forget hairlooms.

The one I like is "Wa-La!" or "Wa-lah!" or "Wallah!" as a substitute for Voilà.

My issue is with those who don't understand the coding of a quote from another post, or a link from the interweb, mess it up, and then don't edit or delete it, leaving a string of characters and a mess of a post. Hitting the i instead of the u because they're right next to each other, I can live with . . .

The thing that drives me nuts is when I have nearly completed a long and brilliant post, I apparently hit some combination of keys that deletes the whole thing.

Knowing I will not be able to duplicate what was lost, I usually just go on to something else......:(

Hit "ctrl" and the Z key simultaneously and that might bring it back.

Back in school I had a professor who was famous (or infamous) for being a stickler on draftsmanship in documents. Twenty-five years later while drafting commitments to insure I could still hear his voice in my ears.

There it is. ;)

How com so meny o mi wurds hav red skwigle lins unner em? :D

I know, this is an entirely personal problem, but for reasons unrelated to this forum, I type so many words from other languages that I turned spell-check off because the many red squiggly lines got too annoying ... ;)

PS: And of course spell-check does not alert folks who take things for granite, or see something as a blessing in the skies, even if they suffer from carpool tunnel syndrome.

Unless I'm missing something, there is a systemic issue that makes it hard to do a more thorough job in reviewing a post before putting it in the thread. I am a volunteer recording secretary in the town government, and I compose the minutes of my commission's meetings. When I draft the minutes, I like to do the best first draft I can, then set everything aside for a few hours. It's amazing how many errors I catch when I review my work a few hours later. If there is a way to do this here I haven't found it, and if there is, I hope someone will let me know.

When I feel a need for that, usually some longer technical post in a subforum, I simply cut-and-paste my text either onto my i-phone's notepad or a blank Word doc if I'm on my desktop, and leave the thread or forum without posting. I retrieve it and review/finish/edit and post, or sometimes just discard, whenever I'm ready.

Typos, diction, grammar errors are gonna happen no matter what and after 30+ years in publishing I can affirm that proofreading your own stuff puts one in the position of missing the same errors while reading as were made when typing. Tolerance is good. Hiring a proofreader for a forum? Not so much.

Or, maybe try this: Grammarly: Free Online Writing Assistant

Hit "ctrl" and the Z key simultaneously and that might bring it back.
Now if I could just figure out how I manage to accidentally delete the post I'm working on, I'll try this out...

(Of course if I knew what was causing it, I wouldn't do that anymore...:confused:)

Where I live there's a FB page titled Sevier County Rant and Rave where people go and whine about things they don't like and there are very few post positive comments.

Maybe we should start one here. This would fit nicely. :D

I will pay to have the Cheese and Popcorn Concession so it is not just a whine lounge. :D

That's pretty clear thinking, considering how smokey it is up your way!

Auto correct gets me a lot. And I'm not good at spelling. And I fat finger a lot. And if I'm not wearing my cheaters, can't see to well. I guess I'm a lost cause.
