For the record I'm a dog fan, there's three in my house. but this deal is erking me to death!

It's a problem with the neibors tiny yip yip ***. They never keep this dog tied up, he's free to roam whenever. This yipper tiny dog has a big dog personalility and thinks he owns the block.

On many occasions he's ran up on me and tried to bite me, I'm not scared of him and have done my best not kicking the **** out of this PIA dog.

I've confronted the neibors about keeping their dog tied up as we do ours but they don't care! This is getting really old and I'm about done with this. They leave the dog outside all day and it never shuts up, yip yip yip yip alllllllllll day long!

What to do besides kicking the heck out of it next time it tries to bite me or showing it my baseball bat?

Your thoughts?

A friend of mine had a similar situation and told me this story.

He had a neighbor who's dog barked all the time constantly and was just as bad as the one you've experienced. He tried being nice and telling the neighbor and asking them to please tie the dog up. They ignored his request and didn't care. It was his experience that some dog owners, (like some parents with obnoxious children in stores), are so used to their obnoxious children or animals, that they expect everyone else to put up with it too and don't care who it bothers.

He told me it got so bad that he called animal control who came out and talked with the dog owner but the dog owner didn't pay any attention to them either. So this friend filed suit against the dog owner for nuisance and noise ordinance and recorded the dog on video/audio. It went to court, my friend played his video/audio recording and the judge made the dog owner pay a fine. This friend then thought that would stop it. But it didn't. They continued doing the same thing even after going to court and paying a fine. According to the story my friend told me, the authorities are loathe to get involved in situations like this and even when he took the time, trouble and expense to file in court and won, it didn't stop the situation.

This friend of mine put his home up for sale and moved because of it not stopping. He told me if he had it to do all over again, he had learned it would be best not to say anything at all to the dog owner. Because then if anything happened to the dog they would know who to retaliate against. He told me if it ever happened to him again, that he wouldn't say anything to the owner (based on his previous experience) but would specially prepare a treat for that dog to eat and toss it to him.

That's the story that was told to me by my friend. I personally would not advocate what he described he would do if it ever happened to him again, but I can understand his frustration at eventually having to move due to the dog owner's lack of controlling his animal. Situations such as this are difficult. My friend told me that some people have been killed over arguments concerning a dog. He said some people consider their dogs to be like their children and that they can do no wrong and get uppity with you if you dare to even politely ask them to control them. He said by asking them to control their animal, you are in effect telling them they are not being responsible, and that people being people, will take offense at that even if you are polite about it.

You could fight fire with fire and put your neighbor in your shoes. Perhaps you could let your dogs out, so that they can take care of that other dog without you doing anything personally. It would help if one of your dogs was a big bad Rottweiler or similar large dog and with a nasty disposition that could eat the other dog in one bite. Perhaps that would intimidate the other dog to the point where he dares not utter a peep and stays very quiet and hidden for fear of being pounced upon by your dogs. Then that puts the other dog owner in your shoes. Now HE would have to come to you asking you to control your animal. Perhaps then the two of you could come to an equitable conciliation.

Or you could simply let that persons yap yap dog bite your ankle next time he tries to bite you (how bad could it be with a tiny yap yap dog?). Then immediately call 911 and animal control and go to the doctor. Once the dog bites you, the authorities will likely make the dog be put down. If they don't, you can sue the owner for his dog biting you and your pain and suffering and medical expenses. I imagine that would also put an end to the problem.

Or...if the dog comes on your property, put a box propped up with a stick tied to a piece of string with a piece of meat under the box. When the dog goes for the meat, pull the stick out and capture the dog. Or go to the expense of using a wire dog capture cage. Then call animal control and have them come pick up the dog. Do that a few times and when the owner gets tired of paying to get the dog out of animal control, they will either tie him up or get rid of him.

Catch him in a live trap and take him to an animal shelter in another town. Pepper spray, suppressor, pellet rifle, aim a stereo at his house with "special music"..... solutions are out there.

I can tell you are frustrated, but don't be that guy to land on the nightly news for crushing "that poor little dog" with a bat.

Your town should have a animal control officer. I would call them after the owners leave for work so the officer can hear and see the dog tied up all day. After some fines, they should learn to take better care of the situation. If not, then they can have their dog taken away and that would be bad for them, but great to you.
I am a dog person also. We have 2 Boxers. 4 dogs next door barked all the time. Same situation as yours. Divorce came and she moved out. All quiet in my part of NH.

Next time he tries to bite you have a water gun filled with ammonia and water then squirt it in his eyes. This will teach the dog a lesson he won't forget. Don

best to dilute the ammonia ...not sure the percentage, but
full strength could blind the dog....surely you dont want to do that
blind dogs bark just as bad as sighted dogs

but i do agree with the squirt gun.....just not full strength

I can tell youre frustrated but dont take it out on the pooch. Like us they have their own personalities and its the owners who have to train them, they're doing what comes natural to them.

I'd get back at the owners

Build a fence. Dogs shouldn't be tied up outside...

As for the neighbor's dog, capture it, dye it pink and take it home. If it's intact maybe stop by the vet for a quick spay/neuter.

Don't blame the dog. Barking is what dogs do.

We have a neighbor like that with two dogs. They do not let it run loose, they have a fence but the bark alllll day. We all finally complained enough that animal control came by. They keep the dogs inside now but you can still hear them.

Do you have a leash law where you live? If so I like the live trap idea. If you catch him bring it to the pound or animal control and the owners will have to pay to get him out.

My X-Wife (a blond) and I had a very similar problem with the people next door.
Their dog barked ALL NIGHT LONG!

One night she just had enough, and at 2am got out of bed and I heard her go outside.

A little while later she came back to bed and said, "There!"
I said "There? There what? The stupid dog's still barking...."

She said *Yeah - he's still barking, but I put him in our yard -- Let's see how they like it."

And if the owners don't claim the dog in (usually) a very short time the dog will die.

Inviting .gov entities into one's life has many many ways to go sideways. Always my very last resort.

Squirt it with a hose or one of those pump up squirt guns. Plain water will almost certainly work. I've sent dogs running with a squirt of water from a bicycle type sports bottle.

Using ammonia on a dog that is not really a threat is cruel.

A good soaking or two with a strong stream from a hose or powerful squirt gun should keep it away. The dog will associate that unpleasantness with your place and avoid it.

My neighbors had a rotty mix that when it was tied would bark all night long so they would untie the darn thing and it would **** in my driveway. Unfortunately they had to learn the hard way as about 3 months ago a woman hit the dog with her car and they got cited for having a loose dog. The dog suffered for it and had to be put down. When I lived in a trailer park growing up we had lots of loose dogs and cats that we had to deal with them on their own right. We had one local woman they seemed to breed the darn things and she had about 30 cats by herself. The animal control officer was about eighty and was in no hurry to do anything about them. Several of the cops that used to come in there knew about the woman and had even whacked a couple with their cars. They knew a couple of us and told us to deal with the cats discretely. Now these were not house cats or pets, but full on feral cats that you could not get near and killed every songbird they could find. But back to dogs, we used to take little plastic jewelry beads and put them in our BB guns, we used them on ourselves and other than a good sting at full power they would not penetrate the skin so they worked well. I am not advocating any sort of such treatment but I am saying there are solutions out there they won't harm the animal.

David,
Just for the record i go with those who say please don't take it
out on the dog. As an owner of three i would be very upset if
someone took it in their hands to purposely hurt any one of them
and it might get ugly real quick. As Fishslayer said, "It's what dogs
do don't blame the pooch". I would never tie up a dog outside
either. I consider this as inhumane as beating a dog.
I would suggest taking out your frustration on the "Owners" as well.
Very subtle things can be done to let them know someone nearby
is not happy. Enough said !!

Had a bad neighbor, a property lawyer as it turned out. He knew all the ins and outs and was a scumbag.

He had 4 dogs, three of which he left outside at night. They barked at the traffic passing by our common area which is directly next to our bedroom. They did this all night long.

I asked him to house them at night, but his royal highness wouldn't condescend to such a plebeian request.

So, I started to call him when the dogs barked, whatever time it was. He accused ME of harassing HIM!! I told him since he deigned to subject me to sleepless nights, I felt we should share the burden. I further told him he could solve the issue by stopping the barking by housing the dogs at night. He wouldn't, threatened me with a lawsuit and so I increased the pressure and continued the current operation.

All our neighbors were stressed by the dogs, but unable or unwilling to confront him. I organized them and used them to form an association whereby we would complain to the authorities to build a foundation should he sue any one of us.

I further instructed the neighbors to boycott this idiot and not give him access to their properties for his tree maintenance or other issues. This was crippling to them as they were dependent on this access.

Took @ 6 ~ 8 months, but after this shunning they moved.

I never lost a moment's peace or a minute of sleep over that.

There's always someone tougher, smarter or more devious, so pissing people off is never a good idea because you never know who's who.
