Alright here is a question for you fellow mp15 22 owners. I just sighted in my Eotech 511 at 30 yards today while using aguila super maximum hyper velocity ammo 30 grain solid point ammunition. my group for 25 rounds was in a circle about 3 inches in diameter and center on the target except 6 rounds were scattered about 2-4 inches away. Ive only used this ammo in my gun and I was wondering if anyone has used any other ammo and experienced better groups. Thanks!

There's a thread currently explaining the loss of accuracy due to the hypersonic transition, and the improvement in accuracy by using subsonic ammo (assuming it will cycle the action)

Its not your gun my bull barreled ruger won't put that crap ammo within 10" of 1 another at 50... fed bulk shoot 1.5" groups out of my 15-22 all day long and that's close enough for what I do withit

Super maximum hyper velocity? Are you serious? Forget the more is better concept, when it comes to 22 ammo higher velocity = less accuracy. Get a good quality standard velocity or high velocity load and see what your rifle does.

Well dragon thats what the ammo says on the box, I didnt buy it thinking it was the best ammo out there Its just what ive used for a year or so in my ruger 10/22

I'm finding my barrel likes heavier grain bullets no matter the speed. Accuracy depletes quickly with anything under 36grains with mine. Although I've only shot a couple lighter than 36g they have both proven to not be on par with anything I've shot in 40 grain including the hyper velocity Aguila interceptors. Barrel twist plays a big part in this

I'm just laughing that someone would actually put that on their product. The velocity kick in firearms marketing these days is way over the top. Anyway, the most accurate 22lr I have ever used is Wolf Extra Match, which is rated at 1050fps. If you want to get really expensive like Lapua Midas+, that's running just subsonic as well. Problem is to cycle the semi auto you usually need at least a standard or high velocity load. Plenty of good choices out there.

Wal-Mart is where you will get the best bang for your buck on 22 ammo. Federal bulk pack and Federal AutoMatch are both really good. I'm not normally a fan of Winchester 22 ammo, but I've been using the 333 packs from Wally World for a while and am very happy. I had such a good time with the AutoMatch I'm kind of hording my stock now, it's a tad more expensive than the others and harder to find.

Allright ill try the Federal bulk I dont like stepping foot in walmart for some reason so I get all my stuff at cabelas. Could you tell me the groups you were shooting with federal bulk?

1.5 @ 50 friend... not all aquila is junk but those rds r... I've broke 2 hand guns with them.. but a good fed bulk pack will go a long way.. and wolf match extra is a excellent target rd but way to much money for plinkin

Quick thought on high velocity .22LR bullets exiting and entering the sound barrier.
.22 caliber pistols have a real problem with this because they come out of the barrel teetering on this line. So you will see a lot of match and pistol match .22lr ammo made to shoot subsonic through a hand gun to insure accurate bullet stability.
Now with a 22lr rifle this is not much a problem because the bullet has already crossed this super sonic barrier before it has left the barrel while remaining stable and isn't planning on re-entering into sub sonic until well past the 50 yard mark.
So it's in my opinion that rate of twist, velocity, weight, bullet shape, and consistency of these factors are bigger factors at play here.
Now, match grade type cartridges are already going to have more consistent weights, shapes, and velocity than plinker type ammo. Also match grade is usually lower velocity to keep pistols from crossing over and back in that stability wrecking sound barrier.
So my point is, is that lower velocity alone in rifles doesn't mean accurate and higher velocity rounds can be just as accurate given they are consistent in shape and weight, as long as the barrel twist and velocity for the given bullet weight is matched.
.223,22-250's, 22 swifts, and even 22 hornets have all proved to be very accurate out to several hundred yards(exclude hornet) while some traveling 4 times the speed of sounds.

i have a pentax red dot on my 15-22 and it will shoot 3/4'' 10 shot groups all day long off of my 30yd. bench with fed bulk from wal-mart.

if the barrel is shorter than about 6" most hv ammo wont go super sonic in a pistol anyway... 16" is the rule of thumb on 22lr gettin it up to speed with a full burn of the powder

Well I did some target shooting today instead of courses and at 30 yards with my bipod and my eotech, using aguila ammo as stated in my first post I was shooting these groups. 25 shots per group
