Am I a bad man for selling my 686 no-dash?
I bought it last summer at a bargain price.
http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-revolvers-1980-present/256115-accidentally-bought-686-today.html

The only reason I bought it was the price. It was too good a deal to pass up. After buying it, I probably shot it not much over 100 rounds, if that.
Lately I'd been thinking of selling or trading it. A friend of mine heard that I was on the fence about it and made me an offer.
We agreed on a price, and I took the money & bought a NIB M&P9c. I'm not fond of stainless guns and he loves them. He is ecstatic about acquiring a 686 no-dash, and I'm loving my new M&P.

So, am I facing damnation for getting rid of a 686 no-dash and replacing it with a piece of plastic? :D

Off-topic - how was the recoil/muzzle flip with that 4" 686?

Off topic again - are the engravings on your M&P9c white or is that the camera flash? If so that's pretty cool. Mine are just engraved and black (40c, otherwise identical).

On topic - you have to be happy with the decisions you make. I'm sure you'll love the 9c. I shot one for round-one of my CCW qualification at the range and I loved it. I was leaning more towards the M&P's anyway, but all I shot before then were Glocks. The ergonomics of the M&P won out and after a great run at the range in class on a 9c I bought my 40c for the heavier round with the same exact form factor.

If you miss the 686 then get another one. If there were any other configurations that you would have liked instead then get them for round 2. I have a couple more carry guns to get and then I might look in to getting a 686 myself :)

Not if you are happy with it. I have what I have because I like 'em. I do think that at some point you will miss it but it can be replaced fairly easily...I sold one gun in my life and don't regret it but only because it was a duplicate.

1) The 4" L-frames are a dream to shoot.

I think you are completely out of your mind and recommend you seek therapy ASAP.

This made me laugh. :D
I should add that blue guns are my passion, and I still have my 586 no-dash.

And I will NEVER sell my 586.

So you sold a beautiful stainless wheel gun for a lump of plastic. I guess there's worse kinds of crazy.
Actually if your friend appreciates the 686 and you'd rather have the M&P9c, than it seems to me that things worked out just right for the two of you.
I've been toying wth the idea of getting an M&P9c as my first plastic fantastic wonder nine. Only problem I have is I can't afford it right now and I'm not willing to get rid of any of my revolvers.

But if you are happy who cares what I or anyone else think.
This ^^^^ EXACTLY...At least trade it on a Blued Steel
weapon....Haha Just Kiddin' if it makes ya' happy....

What's there not to be happy with?!

Sell the revolver for a semi-auto if that made you happy...I traded a newish Springfield XD(M)9mm for a new 686 (plus some cash) and never looked back.

I believe it was the president of Ruger who once said: "No matter what we make somebody will want something else."

Somebody has to buy the new S&W semiauto guns. They won't survive on selling revolvers alone.

Enjoy, you can always search for another someday. That's half the enjoyment! :D

Heck, I traded a life of philandering, partying and fast cars for a wife. Why not stainless for plastic. Seems so simple doesn't it?

OOOhhh yeah, bad move, (I did the same thing 2 years ago and deeply regret doing so) I wish I could replace them (4" 686 & 586) for what I sold them for.

Eh... It was your gun to do with as you pleased. As a matter of opinion, I think your friend did better than you, but the only thing that really matters is that, when all is said and done, you are happy.

For what it's worth, I sold a Gen 3 Glock 19 a while back and used the proceeds to buy an M36 Chief's Special which is my current EDC.

I think you did the right thing everyone ended up happy. The 686 is going to a new home where it will be shoot and enjoyed by someone else and taken care of.

Also you ended up getting the gun you wanted and can enjoy. I think all around every thing ended up working out for the best.

Grats on your new fantastic plastic pistol.

686 sold

It's your decision, and I applaud you for it. We've all bought and sold many guns over the years. In 45 years of handguns, I only have one piece I've kept, and that's a mint Python.

Besides, if ya want another 686, dash-no-dash, IL-pre-IL, blah, blah, blah. They're all great. Buy yourself a new one:)
