Americans Bought How Many Guns in 2 months?

I was in my LGS today as a matter of fact and increased that number by 3!

The numbers in the article only includes dealer sales/transfers where a NICS check was done. Buyers with an approved CPL or purchase permit don't require a NICS check and legal private party sales aren't counted either.

The 4.7 million transfers for December and November sounds like a big number until you put it in perspective. That's only 42 guns per forum member! ;)

I also was in a LGS this morning, but only bought One. We were talking and he told me that none of his distributors have any .22 LR. I didn't expect to see that caliber disappear. Stopped in another LGS and he was loaded with AK's. Didn't check the price, but I suppose it was high as he is a jerk. Went to another and they had about 1/4 of what they usually have in inventory. Guns, ammo, reloading all picked over.

To go along with the surge in firearms purchases is a surge in concealed carry permits. Some of that is by people I would never expect to even express any any interest, such as my wife. She took the MA required safety course, but I thought it was just to humor me. When I asked if she really was going to apply she said,

"I don't know if I'll ever want a gun, but I want to be able to have one if I decide I do."

I know several other middle aged women who expressed the same sentiment to me.

I DROSd my SR1911 in a black rifle type shop the morning of Dec 14. The walls were full of evil stuff. I went in to pick up my pistol the 27th & it was bare as ol' Mother Hubbard's cupboard. Did have one VERY nice paratrooper SKS carbine left though.

I'm guessing those numbers would be new guns - consignment, etc. Uncle Sugar wouldn't know about PPT in Free States. Only a few require PPT through an FFL. I believe FFLs/NICS would be where the numbers come from?

Went to one of my L.G.S. today.
Their are almost out of the Gun Business.
They had just a hand full of Pistols, six or seven ar-15's, all Consignment.
Several Level Actions, one AK-47/.22.
They did have a ton of ammo. Also out of targets.
Everything is the dirty word, BACK ORDERED.
Unable to find any M&P 15/22 mags. No FNX Mags.

Obama is not all bad. He is keeping the people that work in the firearms manufacturing industry employeed in a tough market. He may even be creating some new jobs there. He is the best gun salesman I have ever seen.

Take that number with a grain salt. How many of the "recorded" 67 mililon were brand new guns being sold for the first time?
The brand new guns is the number that would be real, not all the trade-ins at dealers.

When these numbers are reported I wonder how many were purchased by government agencies.

This is built off NICS calls. I would say none of them are .gov purchases.

I didn't help these recent numbers though... :(

But I do have mine... :D
