And the war is on.

Symbolic, or all they have left? I'm thinking all they have left, but I get your point. Israelis are creaming them now as I type, Saudis have predictably come out in condemnation of Iran.
For decades, the Iraqis, part Sunn'i and part Shi'a, kept the two warring factions apart. Now they're eyeball to eyeball; we're in the middle now that we dropped some bombs.

The sleeper cells within the USA might not be acting because if they do the current regime might be either powerless or out of power and dead. Not much incentive to act when your movement is completely kaput.

Let's hope the (hopefully ineffective) strike on our base in Qatar satisfies their domestic need to do something to us in retaliation, and they will be wise enough to cease and desist.
Latest news is this is how it is working out...

NYT : ...Iran on Monday launched a missile attack on an American base in Qatar, the largest American military installation in the Middle East, in what appeared to be calculated retaliation for U.S. strikes on three critical Iranian nuclear sites.

Even as it attacked, there were signs that Iran was been looking for an off-ramp from a confrontation with the United States. Three Iranian officials said their government had given advance notice that the missile strike was coming, to minimize potential casualties, and President Trump responded with an olive branch online...

WaPo: ...In a string of social media posts on Monday, President Donald Trump appeared to signal a de-escalation of tensions with Iran, writing that Tehran seems to have “gotten it all out of their ‘system’” with its telegraphed and limited attack on U.S. forces in Qatar, and encouraging Iran and Israel to seek “Peace and Harmony in the Region.” “CONGRATULATIONS WORLD, IT’S TIME FOR PEACE!” he wrote in one Truth Social message....

Although I agree with what you are saying, I do not think it is an established fact that we would not have proceeded without an Israeli request. Iran has been insufferable since they got away with taking our Embassy all those years ago. They are a world terror leader and they could no more be trusted with a nuclear bomb than a 3 year old with a hand grenade.
I will concede that Israel did make the request and that IDF had done the prep work on Iran's air defense,

I dont want anyone to think I am making light of this situation. While I'm blessed in that I do not have to display a Gold Star, I did spend two long horrible years while my son was put back together after his stint in the Marine Corps...so I get it. With that said, I'm really not worried about what the barbaric mullahs can do to us now. They are severely diminished; the Shah's eldest son is "working the room" and it wouldn't shock me to see his return to Iran in the very near future.
Edit to add - I'm more concerned about the hundreds of Iranians that walked across our southern border than I am the mullahs lobbing missiles.
As far as the Shah's son, I am reminded of the old addage that you "cannot step in the same river twice." I think even he realizes that the days of the Shahs have long ended.
In that part of the world, I am more concerned about who comes after more than the current tyrant(s) in charge. That part of the world has been at perpetual war since the dawn of human history and that will never change in our lifetime.
Iran is in the midst of committing national suicide...they all know it and the majority seem to be more than satified with that and until something happens that changes my outlook on that, it is what I will stay with. The issue is just how many people they will take with them.

That's a reasonable concern. However, there are millions of Iranians in the US, most of whom (with the money and wherewithal) escaped Iran in 1979, and their progeny. They are fine upstanding citizens, every one (a lot) I've ever met are successful professionals or entrepeneurs. When was the last time you heard of Iranians here protesting, raising hell on social media, or involved in criminal activity? Neither have I.

My point being that any virgin-seeking zealots who may have recently slithered into the country illegally will have a hard time hiding among and being harbored by the established Iranians here. My hunch is that the vast majority of Iranian-Americans would rat them out to law enforcement if they were aware of any.
