This day in history 35 years ago:
May 5, 1981 - Bobby Sands, Provisional IRA officer, dies in the Long Kesh prison hospital after 66 days of hunger-striking, aged 27. Below is a mural in his honor in the Bog Side neighborhood in Derry, commemorating him and comparing his hunger strike to that of Nelson Mandela.

Win the battle and lose the war. Must be Cinco De Mayo in the USA. It's Cerveza Time!

Mexican beer... If you are a 40 something strawberry blond hanging by the pool eating pizza, it can be an exotic brew that transports you to that youthful Spring Break in Cancun. Corona in tiny bottles... Coronitas, "that's so cute".

Or you can be a jaded old guy that spent a lot of time scuba diving all around the Caribbean and who knows when you put them in a glass the vast majority of Mexican beers become just another decent mass produced beer. Negra Modelo is excellent, but my choice today is the Mexican beer I started with before they had an image, Carta Blanc.

Both are good, the Coronita was free, I like them!

Cheers!

The missing pants and all of the found pants made me nervous 🚨 , so I checked, yep got mine on! 👖

Spent the morning at the range, only one there! ☺
Spent time working a little faster, the 92 in a 4' circle behind and slightly to the right.
Wonder if my previous ejection issues were because I was not working the action briskly?
Anyhow getting 4" groups at 25 yds, working 9 shots fast, well for me ! 😉
This is a very early 90's Rossi, you know with the 🐯 and using .38 special flat point fmj.
Old eyes and semi buckhorn sights on 16" barrel, leaves me looking for other options.
Most likely peep of some type. Mounting one on the tang might be an issue because of short butt stock and hand position?
Will be trying the 39A already with a peep over the receiver to see how that one does again on targets. Barrel length, think 24", on the 39A should help.
Luckily the TMJ is on the right and I shoot LH. So far no issues, but will be a while before I up the power factor.

For the best feeds on the 92, don't look down into the receiver, just keep it shouldered and work the lever like your angry at it.

Here is a very informative post on the Rossi Rifleman forum detailing tang sights.

BTW, the 24" octagon barrel .357 is a dream to shoot. Any .357 load is tame.

When we were dating, wifey lost a few articles of clothing? Unmentionables, they used to call them? I would always find them when cleaning out a Vehicle before I sold it! Strange?

Now, thinking back on it, I should have just left them in there? And let the new owners wife/girlfriend find them. Wonder how he would have explained that?

Lost and found is getting a lot of attention today. Never lost my pants that I remember. One time my mother visited when I was going to college and found some of those unmentionables in one of my clothes drawers, held them up,dropped them back in the drawer and never said a word, she liked the girl I was going with or she probably would have given me a lecture. I was out of the Army but she still gave me her opinion whenever she thought I needed it. I miss her. Drift on,don't worry,be happy.

One Sunday when I was young, but old enough to drive my Dad found a pair of unmentionables in the glove compartment! He came into the house and woke me up!
Couldn't yell because of others in the house 😜, but let me know that it had better not happen again! 😈

After dinner that afternoon, my Mom looked at me and started chuckling! 😗
Ever thought you could hide something as a kid? 😚

I lose track. Which drifter is from St. Augustine? My folks go down for vacation every year and rent a condo. Yesterday, mom managed to herniate herself and required surgery while on vacation there. She is doing well and will probably be back at the condo today. Then back home to Missouri this weekend. Must be the water.

Just pretend this is hwitty.

Could you be thinking Skeptic 9C? I believe Geoff is from around there...

On board the Yolo 5/5/45 in Okinawa.

May 5, 1945

Once again the Japanese were exhausted after sending a major Kikusui attack against Okinawa, although the enemy kept Hagushi personnel at GQ from 0130 to 0430. Several high-flying aircraft closed Bolo to 20 miles. They failed to attack. Nor were they intercepted by CAP flown by pilots of TF 58 carriers and Taffy. Operating 90 miles to the east of us, ships of TF 58 are seldom seen but we know of their presence as their carry out attacks on Amami, Tokuno and Kikai. It is a comfortable feeling to know they are there, always vigilant.

After breakfast while at work answering ship's correspond¬ence, I read a letter from the command that Yolo send a second quota of five enlisted men to the west coast for assignment. The object of this system is to keep morale high by giving the best men an opportunity for leave. Those who work the hardest are those nominated. Selections are left to the discretion of the CO. Promotions to (jg) have been delayed for a month. My corps of ensigns is unhappy.

Starting early and working late Yolo services one ship after another. In the morning the weather was wonderful. With the passage of a cold front in the afternoon it is rough, windy and cold. Day after day the list of ships wanting our services grows. Out here priorities exist. Some ships are just more im¬portant than others. Those do receive more attention from us. A red alert sounded after dark and all watch standers went to battle stations. Secure came at midnight.

Thanks very much for this post and your previous one with the 92 Rossi! 😊 😀 😁 Been shooting mine since I got it new. But 25 years or so ago eyes and a lot others worked better! 😛
Since my stroke in 2013, double vision, TMJ, and other nerve issues that flare up, has made shooting interesting. Strokes are no fun, but one in the brain stem makes a lot of neurological and autonomic nervous system functions a process of frustration. Nothing big but some little things pop up at odd times! 😜 Possible joke here, but don't want to offend watchers not in the same drift! 😏

Found Elsewhere But Drift Worthy

Forgetter BeForgotten

My forgetter's getting better,
But my rememberer is broke
To you that may seem funny
But, to me, that is no joke

for when I'm 'here' I'm wondering
If I really should be 'there'
And, when I try to think it through,
I haven't got a prayer!

Oft times I walk into a room,
Say 'what am I here for?'
I wrack my brain, but all in vain!
A zero, is my score.

At times I put something away
Where it is safe, but, Gee!
The person it is safest from
Is, generally, me!

When shopping I may see someone,
Say 'Hi' and have a chat,
Then, when the person walks away
I ask myself, 'who the hell was that?

Yes, my forgetter's getting better
While my rememberer is broke,
And it's driving me plumb crazy
And that isn't any joke.

Growing up I remember mom was a big folk music fan. I have no idea why but for some reason this song popped into my head today.
This woman has a beautiful voice and sings this haunting song perfectly.

...other nerve issues that flare up, has made shooting interesting.
One thing that has helped smooth out clambering rounds, is loading well-crimped ammo. We only buy ammo for the Rossi that is nearly smooth at the case mouth transition.

Smoothing the lever detente and replacing the ejector spring makes the whole process less tiring.

Good luck.

Just Remember

Found'em! But I have no idea how they got on the porch roof. My neighbor thought I was sending a distress signal and called the cops. I'm still not wearing them.

Always try to remember, ZIPPER goes towards the Front! Big end towards the top, the two little ends towards the bottom. I know, it's allot to remember, but you can do it.

I've been thinking of tracking this tune down for a while & finally did today. I'm pretty sure that Pino Palladino is the bassist; I really enjoy his playing. He's one of those studio players that nearly everyone has heard but they don't know who he is. Another example of his work is the wonderfully melodic bass line on Sunset Grille.

Oh lordy, I'm gonna get tested.
The bison meatloaf didn't last long but at least buffalo's lean meat. I just told myself it was lean protein.
Now, we're gonna visit my wife's Mom for Mother's Day and all she wants is some of my wife's lasagna.
Ain't nuthin' low fat, low calorie or low carbohydrate 'bout that.
There also ain't no resisting it either.
But I'm gonna havta, it's not on my diet.
