Annoyed at thread drift

Happy Reds Tamely day to all Drifters. Just checking in to see if yawl are . Looks like everyone is still healthy and happy. I haver learned not to get upset about thread drift any more. This has been a very therapeutic session for me. I am all better know. Thanks to all that was worried if I would make it through and I am happy to say. I graduate today. Back to work. See you soon. Vic
 
Busy morning and getting hungry for lunch! Some of my buddies are going to bring me some after they eat. I generally eat lunch on the run this time of the year,when it gets hot out I shut down for lunch and try to get in the AC for a cool down. Drift on!
 
I'm still doing nothing!

No rain as of yet, weather turds said it would be by now. They are still just guessing?

Fix'n to fix a couple of corned beef sandwiches. All this talk of Irish makes me hungry?

I've got some fresh Amish organic tomatoes that'll go great on the sandwiches. Just sitting in the window sill calling my name. Sliced extra extra thin.

And a brand new bag of Lays Lattce Cut Black Pepper Chips. Love their extra crunchy goodness.

Might even have a few Sweet Baby Gerkins on the side?

So far, my day of relaxing is going well. No cell phone ringing, no texts, no spam emails, the fax line is quite. Just peaceful bless. Even the dog is sacked out and not barking and slobbering up the sliding glass door.

My hardest decision of the day will be, yellow mustard or fancy brown mustard on my sandwich?
 
Got back from delivering the Corvette for service,no rain but the pollen didn't blow off, not even doing 70 on the highway! :eek: Pollen is making me sneeze more too, hope it does rain to wash it down!

Summertime lunch, nice chicken salad sandwich on toast with fresh crisp lettuce and a nice fresh slice of tomato.... washed down with an icy RC Cola! :cool:
Can't beat that! :D

Even the sneezing didn't blow off the pollen, maybe you should have tried harder.:D
 
Searched for the vegan zombie horde and came up empty handed. I have determined the vegan zombies eat the vegetable equivalent of brains.

I'm considering using a large Igloo cooler as a feeder and baiting them with a bushel of cauliflower. First I must determine if baiting of vegan zombies is allowed in my county.

Saint Arnold seasonal Summer Pils. Your basic Germany Helles style lager with bright Bohemian Noble Hops. It's the Texas version of the German version of Pilsner which is Czech. I like it, a step up from Bud for about the same price.

The Ted Cruz "Show" is in my little town as i type this.
He's speaking at the old "Hoosier Gym", To those not familiar
This was the Gym used as the Home Court in the Basketball
movie "Hoosiers". They Filmed some here in Knightstown, IN.
Only about 2500 people here. Mostly a nice small farming
community.
So anyways, all the streets around the old gym are filled with
the sattelite trucks for the TV stations etc...
My buddy asked me if i was going...It's two blocks from my
house and all they asked is to RSVP and you got in free.
I told my bud i had a Dentist appt. at that very time
to have all my teeth pulled without anesthesia... and i would
not miss that for a meet and greet with ole Ted.

If any of ya'll are around this area drop me a line and i'll walk
you thru the gym and give ya' the nickel tour.
I played 6th grade basketball and got second place in a School
spelling bee in that gym many moons ago.

Did the same thing here. Wife and I were going to the HS
Baseball game that was starting at 5PM
We got up to the field at 4:30 and i could tell from a look
to the west that no baseball would be played today.
Told wife "lets get home before this starts".
Got home and sat on the back porch and watched the hail
and lightning storm roll thru.

The TV stations big trucks at the Gym for the Cruz rally
are getting smoked with Hail right now.

The thunderstorms just started to explode around here
right at 5 pm

I'm going to switch back to yesterday and today in 1945 off the shore of Okinawa mode.

The LST/LST (m) 677 got an official name USS Yolo, for Yolo County, CA. The battle is still raging onshore and at sea suicide attacks keep coming.



April 25, 1945

All hands were up at reveille after an uninterrupted night's sleep. Breakfast was ready! Yolo is feeding about 500 men each meal and provisioning 20 ships a day. From time to time a destroyer ties up and demands just about everything on board. Because the skipper outranks me, and they are part of the "fleet", they feel we are committed to their every wish. Too many commands want to order us about. My standard reply to the destroyer skippers and others who complain is - "Tell it to the admiral". Contradictory orders are issued, changed, revoked and issued again. Through it all we get plaudits for a job well done. Then suddenly a blistering dispatch is received ordering us to do something that has already been done or something we know nothing about and were not a party to in the first place!

The official name of the ship, U.S.S. Yolo, came through this afternoon. We have grown out of the amphibious fleet and into the train of the regular Navy. I had hoped that with the change the skipper might become a LCDR and thus have more authority.

Each ship coming alongside is given a ton of provisions. All of it is distributed by hand. The hard working crew of this ship are so tired at day's end sleep comes easily. Two transports, the Eastland and the Drew, gave us 62 tons of provisions during the day. This day the sky was partly to completely overcast, while the wind was from the northwest. No attacks developed due in part to the bad weather. While we saw none of the movement, units of the 77th Infantry Division were shuttled from Ie to the Okinawa beaches. Here their strength in numbers and material is needed to maintain pressure on the enemy before Shuri Castle.

April 26, 1945

From 0225 to 0401 Japanese aircraft were reported in most sectors from three to 15 miles away. Under good to excellent smoke the planes were not visible, although shore batteries fired. The ship secured from GQ at 0500 but the men slept in until 0800.

Ships fill the harbor while overhead a protective CAP hovers during the day. Convoys come and go. Despite its losses, the picket line functions to perfection. Unloading on the beaches is continuous. Admiral Turner's assistant flag secretary came over to talk about the personnel on board waiting for further assignment. He commented again on the good job we are doing. That is what counts!

At 2000 all department heads make their reports to me. These tell the story actually of our daily operations and the tremendous volume of work accomplished each day. Today, two returning transports, the Goodhue and again the Drew, transferred a ton of fresh and frozen provisions and 36.5 tons of dry stores to Yolo. The weather was sticky, hot and humid with sporadic periods of rain - a tough environment for handling stores.

But then came the upsetting moment of the day. Three full commanders assigned as prospective COs of destroyers and a Lt. Cmdr. reported on board for berthing and messing and to wait the arrival of their ships. The deck Quonset hut is available for officers but not with so much brass. Because of the constant turnover in officers and men we have difficulty keeping up with the demand for towels and sheets. The commanders were as furious as they might be at the quarters and refused to stay in the hut. After scrambl¬ing about, four bunks were made available in wardroom country. The four contended they would complain to the admiral, no less, and they did early the next morning. Meanwhile, Mr. Kinley took the boat to the flagship and explained that Yolo could not handle such high ranking officers and asked that scrambled egg officers be sent to a transport with quarters befitting their rank. Con¬ditions on board Yolo are primitive but adequate for those with fewer stripes. This vessel is too short of personnel to be a receiving ship. Amazingly our difficulties stem from the trivial.



Some entries in this diary make me chuckle. These quarters are not acceptable... in the middle of a nightmare... I have to shake my head. I'm glad Homer did not name the officers.

Isn't it amazing to think that even an Officer would have the
unmitigated gall to whine about a bunk in War time?
Guys getting shot, suicide bombers attacking ships, people
are dying every minute and these guys complain about three
squares and a cot. Fascinating stuff. Keep em' coming brother.
