Wow. A couple'a days of gardening, and I have all this DRIFT to ketchup on!
Good job, gang.
Renewing prayer sendings for all in the Drift who find themselves in less than ideal health or life circumstances.

Then we went to the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, for those not familiar it's one of the Smithsonians Aircraft collection.

Hey, Geoff. I've been there too. LOVED it. Coulda spent two days there. Lots of very very cool aircraft.
Someday I'll get down there again and stay at Cherry Hill.
They've expanded. New cabins... water park.
It was a nice place to stay. Rained like hell and the tent leaked, but we had a great time.

Hey jell-dog. I had to squelch my laughing at your post so as not to wake (my) Drifter.

Speaking of waking. I'm heading for bed myself. Have a great Friday, gang!
Night-night.

June 9, 1945

What a hectic night! Beginning at 0026 and lasting until 0528 the Hagushi ships remained at flash red. Bolder than usual, the enemy flew over the anchorage and the island dropping bombs on the latter. Operating continuously, the fog generator used 1000 gallons. Although no attack, this was one of our busiest evenings. This is another beautiful day with high and steady winds. Loading proceeded at a rapid pace. All turned to with a will that surprised me. Maybe they think this will be the last time. Really our period of usefulness here is about over. Many of the smaller vessels have been withdrawn and larger ships will take our place. This morning enemy fighters flew low over the anchorage and the island and dropped their bombs. From 1935 to midnight 10 raids from the north were over the area.

After dinner two cans of beer were distributed to each man. This is all the beer we have! The going price to those who did not drink was $5.00 a can. Even with the additional fresh foods we are running low. Dry provisions are always available but the reefers do not serve us regularly. By the way, TF 38 shelled Okino Daito and Minami Daito and then withdrew to Leyte for replenishment and repair. When ready, the TF will hit Kyushu.

Meanwhile, back home...

June 9, 1945: Following the World War II victory in Europe over Germany, but before the surrender of Japan, Gen. George S. Patton Jr., and Lt. Gen. James Doolittle arrive at Los Angeles Municipal Airport for a welcome home tour...

...Both generals had strong ties to Southern California. Patton was born Nov. 11, 1885, in San Marino. Doolittle was born Dec. 14, 1896, in Alameda, near Oakland, but grew up in Los Angeles.

Tomorrow's supposed to be 80 and partly sunny.
Getting better.
I'd like it at least another 10 degrees hotter, humid and sunny.

I'd sure trade you tomorrow's weather. Forecast here is 95 and
high humidity. Heat advisory.

Having my Honey Jack, for medicinal purposes you know.
So I should be nighty night soon.

That heat is supposed to get to us Saturday.
I've really enjoyed the last week's weather
but i knew the humid/hot stuff would be here
soon enough. Too early for the 90's for us.
Weather Heads say 92 forecast for Saturday
is 15 degrees above average for us this time
of year.
Got the mowing done this morning when it was
a comfortable 75. They say 88 friday. 92 Saturday.

Pawngal, Hope your toddy helps you sleep and you have
sweet dreams in the drift tonight.

A nice young lady friend and single mom, called me crying tonight. Someone had stolen the contents of her wallet, along with the contents of her shift mate's at the hospital.

Both had their purses in a locked closet only accessible to staff with keys.

Two weeks of grocery money was taken. Even when they identify the thief or thieves, does anyone think the money will be recovered?

There's a special place for people like that, and I hear it can get warm.
