ANOTHER ASSASINATION TRY ON TRUMP

Here's what New Mexico Governor Lujan-Grisham said in 2023 as she banned firearms:

""No constitutional right, in my view, including my oath, is intended to be absolute..."

Seeing as you swore an oath to the US Constitution, you better go defend it from her!

Unfortunately for those who disagree with her, the law does agree. Every right granted to you by or from the US Constitution has two things that are attached to it at the hip: Restrictions and Responsibilities. No rights are absolute.

As the old saying goes: "Your right to swing your fist ends at my jaw!"

When Trump is in town he probably plays that course several times a week . They should know everything about that course and how to secure it . No excuse for what happened . SOMEBODY dropped the ball , or worse .

You guys are so consumed about the SS and whether what they did was right or not, BUT You are all missing the fact that an alert citizen took a picture of the accuseds vehicle AND the license plate of it. This is what allowed the quick arrest. How would this have turned out if not for the alert citizen?

Don't forget that what the police did with that information was a boss "Big Brother" move - they set every one of literally thousands of license plate readers (both fixed and mobile) to alert when the vehicle was spotted. That's how they located and caught him.

Your explanation only applies if the state charges are somehow different than the federal charges. If charges are brought by both jurisdictions under substantially similar laws then the federal charges take precedence.

Also, you might get into legal issues if both jurisdictions attempt to try a defendant for the same crime. It's not called double-jeopardy, but I can't recall the term. I'm sure one of our local legal beagles can answer this better than I.

The dual sovereignty doctrine says different.

State and federal governments are considered separate sovereigns and both can prosecute for the same crime.

Being a bodyguard in general and a SS agent specifically, I've read that it's not uncommon that the agent must follow his/her protectee into the restroom in public venues.

Can't be pleasant if an agent draws a protectee who is irregular.
Instead of a gun, the agent might have to carry air fresheners
and assorted toiletries to meet the client's needs.

Not sure that's any worse than the average LEO whose patrol
car is befouled by who know what while transporting a suspect.

Now back to the serious matter of assassins and what to do about them.

I have a former coworker/friend who is extremely upset over the recent 1.5 attempts on a former government employee; yet he is overjoyed with the numerous deaths and injuries caused by exploding pagers. When I pointed this out, he left in a huff.

That pony left the barn a VERY long time ago. LE is not giving up that capability any day soon.

The question was about oaths. If an oath is not absolute, then what's the point?

As a private citizen, Donald Trump had his own security service. When he became the President of the United States, the United States Secret Service became responsible for his security. USSS standards are very, very strict...no one else protects any designated protectee except Secret Service personnel. It's agency policy, that's all.
Really? If that's true then why were HSI there instead of the SS guarding Pres. Trump at the rally in PA? So much for policy, huh?

No, I think what they are saying is that he should surrender personal freedom for the rest of his life and do what his protectors tell him to do.
Flip side is that somebody ... hmmm ... will be housing and feeding the extra SS agents. ka-ching ka-ching

Perhaps I read it differently than you, but the very first thing in the quote from New Mexico Governor Lujan-Grisham was: "Every Constitutional right,...", so I commented on Constitutional rights. Everything else after the comma was in addition to and not the main subject.

Therefore I stand by my statement that no rights are absolute; they all have both concomitant restrictions and responsibilities.

And since you bring it up, the problem with an absolutist argument about the Oath is that many cannot agree on who is actually on the list of "...all enemies, foreign or domestic...". Unfortunately for some wanting to justify their feelings, simply disagreeing with someone's politics does not automatically make them an enemy of the Constitution and/or the United States.

Look at what happens when both sides claim to be "defending the Constitution" with equal fervor...

Not true. After the election there is a "succession" starting with the VP. "They" need to knock him off before Nov 5 since there is no "plan" for that and any "replacement candidate" would be soundly beaten. A winning strategy for determined (foreign or domestic) enemies of the US. Joe

Oh, for Pete's sake...

Nobody dropped the ball at all! Secret Service protocols for this situation and this location worked exactly as they were supposed to. The Secret Service wasn't "lucky", and the agent didn't spot that rifle by coincidence. Trump's detail knows that country club very well, they know where on that golf course their protectee would be vulnerable, they know what to look for and observe as they progress along the course, and they are appropriately armed for that environment and situation. In other words, they were doing their jobs, and their tactics and protocols worked. The wannabe-shooter was detected long before Trump was anywhere near him, and nobody was harmed. They did a great job.

I have lived through, and remember well, the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy; the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Senator Robert F. Kennedy. I also remember the shooting of George Wallace in 1972, the two attempts on President Ford's life, and of course, the shooting of President Reagan.

Political assassinations are a terrible tragedy, for they upend a country and cause terrible stress and turmoil. We are supposed to change power here via the ballot box, not the cartridge box.

The Secret Service has 36 protectees at this time, according to Congressional testimony from former Director Kim Cheatle. I pray for every single one of them, every single day. For deeply personal reasons, I also pray for the safety of the USSS agents who protect them, and who have pledged to step in front of a bullet, if necessary, to ensure that the will of the people isn't thwarted.

I obviously have no first hand knowledge so all is speculation on my part as it is by you. Although I have driven by the location on several occassions.

I'd say it appears there was a fair bit of luck on the SS's part. The suspect doesn't appear to have ben very competent at concealing his presense. That is very fortunate. Hanging **** on the fence wasn't very bright. The rifle barrel obviously wasn't very concealed. Had he been a more competnet assassian he would have been very difficult to detect from any real distance from the inside of the fence. IMHO and I emphasise humble, there should have been at least a 2 man team sweeping down that fenceline prior to Trump approaching that hole. I do give a lot of credit to the SS guy that did observe the suspect. But if he was the extent of the forward team why didn't he have something he could hit with at some distance. If he was too far away to hit with 4 shots (I think it was 4) from his handgun was he even sure what he was shooting at. I'm hoping he was able to observe with optics even if not weapon mounted. Were any passing downrange cars hit with his shots. That's a busy road. My DIL drives by there daily. Give him a short rifle with an optic. I'm sure they have plenty.

Just saw the Rowe investigation update on the 1st attempt. I watched on FOX along with a follow up interview with former NYPD Inspector Paul Mauro. Mauro echoed my take on the 2nd attempt, although far more eloquently.

I know little about the acting SS Director other than he was a local Fl cop at one time. WPB I think. When he's speaking I get the impression of a Marine, unfortunately it's the impression of a dumb Marine. A lot of bloviating and trying to gently defer blame for failures. He needs to go too.

Both assassination attempts were failures as far as SS protection is concerned . The fact that Trump didn't die doesn't mean they did a great job .

So they fail if he lives and fail if he dies? Doesn't hardly seem sensible.

I'll say it again - they're hiring.
I don't think you could have misunderstood this any worse if you had tried .
Let me dumb it down for you . NEITHER shooter should have been looking at Trump through a rifle scope at that moment in time . Obviously you disagree .
I don't care .

No, I understood perfectly. The armchair protective services nonsense just gets old.

If a capable man with a rifle wants you, he'll hit you. The only way to stop that is to not leave your buildings or armored car.
And I get that . I'm referring to these specific incidences . TOO MANY things missed by an agency that is supposed to be the best in the world .

Each and every one of us was born with an expiration date. We all die at that time. The way our clocks get punched is not personal, it's just over. As a child in 1967 I watched my older brother fight cancer for two years before he lost the battle. I don't understand why some suffer and others just go; and I doubt I ever will.

The USSS didn't drop the ball, what will be will be.
