Another slight concern w/15-3

Hi again
At the range today there were a couple of times the gun wouldn't cock single action. I'd jiggle the cylinder and the it would cock. It happens 95% of the time in double action.
When I open the cylinder, move the cylinder release back, pull the trigger, I see the hand move, the hole where the cylinder rod fits in moves back, and the cylinder stop goes down. On DA It won't cock. and it looks like the cylinder stop doesn't drop to allow the cylinder to turn. The hand is moving correctly. No play in the cylinder when cylinder is closed, spins freely when opened, no binding. Anyone have any ideas?

It sounds like the trigger isn't pulling the cylinder stop down soon enough before the hand tries to turn it.

Are you comfortable going inside a S&W revolver? In my experience, this design is so solid that failures of which you describe are most often simply gummed up parts. I have found that anyone who is a long time fan of RemOil will experience this kind of thing as it gums up over time and turns in to a lacquer eventually.

Might just need a good cleaning or possibly you have a rough surface area between the trigger / hammer causing it to hang up.

The hammer doesn't move to the rear? If that's the case, you might check the double action sear. That's the spring loaded piece of metal on the front of the hammer. That is what starts the hammer moving in double action and if it's binding in single action would not let you cock the revolver.

Hammer doesn't move to the rear DA only SA OK.
Seem like the cylinder lock doesn't move on DA when I pull trigger.

It sounds like you have an issue with the cylinder stop. Although, if there is play in the trigger, I imagine that it could cause those problems but I personally haven't experienced it.

Might check for broken hammer or trigger pivot studs. A broken one or the other will make it act weird.

I'm back. Another successful cataract removal.
Now to my M15-3. I looked at the closed cylinder area with light behind it and watched the stop as I tried to pull the trigger back. The trigger moves to a certain point and stops. I can continue very slowly while I watch the stop and when it disappears the cylinder can rotate, If I'm not fast enough the stops pops back up and the cylinder won't turn nor will the trigger move. This does also happens in SA also at times. It seems like the stop reappears prematurley for some reason. The cylinder is tight when locked, hand works fine etc. Seems the stop/or spring on the stop may be the problem. Any thoughts?

Sounds to me like it's due for a trip back to the "smith" if it didn't have this problem before it was "cleaned". If it was actually disassembled for cleaning, I'm guessing a spring was put back improperly or something similar.
