In the past, I have used the strongest Tinactin or Lotramin LIQUID I could find to get through the initial onslaught. Then use the Zeasorb AF daily to keep it at bay.

Just realize, this will not be an overnight cure. It will take time.

Also, the other recommendations to wear looser underwear & clothing are a must.

One of my buddies in Viet Nam acquired the little creatures from a "social engagement" in the ville.
We had heard that one already, so I made up a variant when I saw him sitting on his rack looking quite concerned- I had a 45 in my right hand while I handed him my Randall with my left. Told him to start stabbin em, and I'd shoot any he missed or only wounded. :D

Mercurochrome works if you can find some. Keep them dry for a few days and you're good as new except the color thing.

Grandpa taught me that one summer when I got it.
 
Well I'm sure that any number of remedies listed here would do the trick but, and all humor aside for the moment, what every you use you will be worlds more comfortable if you are now wearing jockey style briefs to switch at least for the duration of your problem to boxer shorts. Go ahead and ask me how I know........ :rolleyes:
 
If your skin is smooth and not cracked, blistered, peeling etc. you need a steroid cream. If it is cracked, blistered, peeling etc. you need an anti-fungal like Lotrimin.
 
the bug cure may be worse then the condition. have used white vinegar to help defeat a fungal affliction, wash the area well with soap and wash rinse well with a clean cloth, and bath the area with straight vinegar, any open areas will burn. do this 2-3 time per day. use a clean towel everyday, wear clean under roos daily and change after working all day. do this daily for about 10 days. what ever you use it will need to be done 2-3 times per day every day, missing a day allows the bacteria to grow back. clean clothes and towel are important so there is no reinfection. lose undies and pants help reduce the heat and sweat.
 
I wish to thank you all for your advice.
I am going to write down all the various brands of medication mentioned here........ I'll try each and every one of them until I find something that works. I'll consider the home remedies mentioned as well.

As a very last resort I suppose I'll go see a doc, but honestly it is just too damn embarrassing.

FWIW......I do not wear briefs......have not since childhood. I always wear loose-fitting boxers. As for personal hygiene well, what can I say? I'm a clean dude!:)..........I probably take too many showers.......sometimes 5 per day due to my itch.

A few posters have mentioned things like "bugs" & "crabs". Yikes!! I honestly don't think it can be anything like that. Those type of afflictions can only come from bad hygiene correct?

I found that switching from wool shorts to cotton seems to work, for me anyway.:rolleyes:

Not really. If I find relief from any advice given here that'd be a big "positive"...yes?:)

....sharing info in the lounge is useful to us all.....a BIG positive I'd say.....and I appreciate every ones response. Even the jokes!

Another thing is that this particular medical situation is extremely minor in nature in comparison to some other more serious issues posted at times.

The active ingredients in athletes foot & jock itch meds are the same. They have different labels but its the same stuff, buy the cheaper one.

When I came back from VN back in '67 I had a fungal foot infection (I think most everyone did) The dermatologist my regular Dr. sent me to said. "Try EVERY brand of over the counter meds you can find. If none of them work come back and I'll write you a perscripttion. But the prescription stuff generaly doesn't work any better, it just costs more."

He was right. Most all of the over the counter sprays & creams made it quit itching. Finally salt water soaks (or maybe just time) made a permanent cure.
 
If it is jock itch then might I suggest some Icy Hot and a fan. The itch will be gone, you will just feel like your credentials have been pepper sprayed. If it isn't jock itch, you know, the rash that won't wash off, then you better go see a doctor and stop doing some of your extra curricular activities. Worst case is that you go get a razor, shaving cream and then douse the area in turpentine. Itch solved.

+1 on switching from briefs to boxers--
Aveeno anti itch lotion works for the itch relief, comes in a small bottle, don't get the anti itch cream, just the lotion, looks like calamine lotion. I've been fighting this for 60 years and no cure yet, mine's been so bad, I've got scars from it, been to the Dr's and got a script, and it helped for a while, but it came back.
Another poster mentioned mercurochrome, haven't tried that but in HS the coach used Merthiolate on us and that helped for a while, thought it was cured, but it came back, don't think the present day formulation of Merthiolate is the same as 40 years ago

i googled "jock itch cure" and some sites recommend apple cider vinegar.
 
the post read "Any doctors here"...I didn't realize we had so many in the medical profession on this forum...I have a new respect for doctors...;)

No - believe it or not, you can actually get crabs from a toilet seat, bench at the gym, etc... What happens is the last user left a few of his or her pets behind and they hopped on you when you sat down. Sorta like fleas. Regardless of what medicine you use, try washing with Fels Naptha Soap - it is usually with the Shout and other laundry pre treaters. Fels is a lye based soap and works well on any skin irritation - might burn a little but it is very soothing. Apply your medicine of choice afterwards. Good luck and good hunting!:D
 
I use a wash cloth with lava soap and rub that area. The lye in the soap does something to the itchy area. It will cure any type of sweat rash. Trust me it works.
 
A Runner's Recommendation

I'm not a doctor but a runner. Last April that problem occurred when I started running 25 miles a week training for a half-marathon. It became a major annoyance and I was suffering. Here's a list of things I tried:

• Desenex powder antifungal. Tried and true solution from when I travelled on business in the tropics of So. America.
• Calamine lotion.
• Desitin Cream (Maximum Level Rash Fighting Ingredient 40% Zinc Oxide) from baby care isle.
• Aquaphor (like Vaseline)
• I purchased three or four different kinds of underwear.

My condition was "Jock Itch", sweaty skin chafing together. I developed a red line and eventually an open sore in the area of the Jockey briefs leg holes. None of the above things worked.

My wife had a very small tube of prescription "Mometasone Furoate Cream USP 0.1%". I sparingly put it on the sores with a Q-Tip so as not to waste any! It cleared up the sores quickly. The preventative measure was "Body Glide – Anti Chafe Balm" as recommended by a running acquaintance at the local sporting goods store. Container looks like Right Guard Anti-Perspirant Deodorant, slather on the "under legs" instead of under arms. Bingo!

My dermatologist confirmed my condition and solution. "Cortizone 10 Anti-Itch Gel" may help, but "Mometasone Furoate" is stronger for the sores. Start with smallest size since it is expensive and a little goes a long ways. I used the anti-chafe balm before every training run and went on to finish the half marathon with a personal best.

I quick search om mecurochrome told me it's been banned by the FDA since '98 for mercury content and lack of proof that it works.

I'm/We're here to say it does work.

How much? To what extent?

I have no rash since then and won't let my pals get that way ever again. I live in Fl. and you have to keep your cool so to speak. Ventilation!
