Any EAA Witness experts here?

I picked this pistol up last weekend at the Rochester gun show from an individual walking the floor. I don't know a whole lot about the Witness line, but I couldn't pass this up for the price.

After leaving the show, I found this in the case, folded up inside of the owner's manual. Judging by the serial number, do you suppose it might be a Lew Horton gun? If none of the esteemed experts here know anything about it, I may have to place a call to either EAA or Lew Horton.

Thanks for any insight you can offer.

DAMMIT ! Why didn't I go to the show ??? Nice find, hopefully someone will know something, Shoo

I can't answer your question, but I did want to say that it's a cool looking piece! It appears to be of the .45ACP persuasion. Is it? I hope it shoots well for you.

WG840,
.45ACP it is. Came with two magazines, but only one of the little adapter deals to take up the space between the gripframe and the magazine baseplate. Hope to soon get it cleaned up nicely and then proceed to dirty it back up soon thereafter.

Shaylex: You made a great buy. The EAA Witness is a direct copy of the CZ 75 series with some of the features of the CZ 85. It is made in Italy by a very well respected gun manufacturer; "Tanfoglio". One of the most accurate autoloaders I own is the same in .40 S&W. I more or less fell into the acquisition of a full sized frame version. I then came to like it so much that I used it to finish 2nd in a combat pistol match among all Las Vegas area law enforcement officers just few years ago. ..... Big Cholla

Hey Shaylex, you are not going to like that gun. You need to meet me in Bristol and I'd be glad to take that off of your hands, Shoo

Well, I made a few phone calls today.
First was to EAA. Spoke to a friendly lady who could only tell me that this gun was one of 100 imported in January of 1998 for Lew Horton.
Then called Lew Horton Distributing. Gentleman that I spoke with said that this was a ported .45 caliber Witness Competitor. Again was told that it was one of 100 from 1998. He also said that the retail price was $459.95 at that time. He said that this was all the information he had on this particular gun.

I had a .40 S&W Witness I bought in 1990 and had it for over 17 years. It was my "go to" defensive handgun (I had a whole bunch of nice defensive handguns) had great handling and controls, and it was really accurate. I shot it in IPSC matches and put countless thousands of rounds through it and don't ever remember a jam and I actually liked it better than a CZ-75 because you could activate the thumb safety even with the hammer down. It is one of the best buys in the gun industry, and I had good luck with EAA customer service but I have heard from others their customer service can be a bit inconsistent.
