Any idea how long S&W's Repair turn around time is?

They do require signature, but my roommate was able to sign for mine when it came back. generally speaking when it comes back it shouldnt have anything identifying it as a gun (Fedex wont accept it if it does.)

Sorry to resurrect an old post, but once S&W had your firearm for repair (ie. you could see from the FedEx number that it was delivered), did S&W reach out to you to let you know they received it/were going to work on it/ finished working on it/had sent it back? Or did FedEx just knock on your door one day and "surprise!"?

They've only had mine a week so I'm not worried at all, just curious as I haven't had any kind of communication from them.

S&W doesn't notify you of receiving it, nor any status. I don't recall if they send you notification when sending it back.

I sent a revolver in for repair in May and it is still not done, no word of when either, I hope you have better luck...

The repair department is closed until 2014. My 686 was returned in about 3 weeks. Too bad they didn't fix anything. It's back again.

Hmmm... didn't know they were closed until 2014 at this point. Thanks for the heads up on that!

I received an email with FedEx tracking numbers when my handgun was on its way back to me. I did call S&W twice while the gun was there to see what the status of the repairs were and the customer service gents were very helpful.

Sent my M&P 9 back to them on 28 Oct for a new fast twist barrel. Not back yet. Received invoice and paid it about a month ago. Planning on calling them first thing on 2 Jan to check.

Sent my 15-22 in for spec update along with 6 old style mags the first week of Oct. Was expecting an 6-8 week turn around. I was shocked when it showed back up at my house in 2 weeks! Smith even replaced my old style mags with the new ones. All free.

They didn't notify me of receiving or shipping it back out. I just signed for it when it showed back up at the house.

In October I sent in a M&P Sport for warranty work related to the finish on the barrel. Return time was about 4 weeks. S&W replaced the entire upper.

In early November I sent my 686-1 in for the bushing recall. Had it back in 10 days. Excellent work. S&W even smoothed out the cylinder release and nicely cleaned after test firing.

When returning both my firearms I received an email stating the firearm had been shipped and the FedEx tracking numbers. The 686-1 shipped 2 day service, the long gun was 3-4 day service. I requested FedEx hold the packages at their service centers for my pickup. Easier for me due to work and FedEx is very good a about holding packages

Nice! That's what my 15-22 is in for too. I received it brand new with a bunch of scratches and an actual gouge in the barrel finish. They told me to just send it in and they'd take a look at it.

I'm new the the S&W family, and it seems like they go above and beyond for their customers (same with Glock I might add).

Kevin8503,
Welcome. I've had S&W revolvers since the late 80s. MHO is that S&W produces very good quality firearms and stands behind their product. I've owned the 686-1 I sent in for the firing pin bushing recall since 1988. The recall started in 1989 or 1990. S&W still honors it.

The Holidays might slow S&W down due to shipping and vacations, but I wouldn't mind waiting while someone spends time with their family

Just thought I'd update on this.

I sent S&W an email on Thurs., Jan 2nd just inquirying about the status to make sure they got it ok. Friday, Jan 3rd I received an email from FedEx with a tracking number on S&W's behalf (it shipped out Friday afternoon). Sat., Jan 4th I received an email from S&W telling me the repairs should be completed in 12-15 business days. -_-

Oh well! I'm happy with the turn around time. Be wary that email responses may or may not be templates, haha.

FedEx says it should be here tomorrow. Hooray!

Figured I'd use this thread rather than making a whole new one for kind of the same topic.

So I just got an email containing the shipping label.
All I want to do is send the magazine back. Do I still need to ship the firearm along with it?

No. Just return the magazine.
