search for the jay and the americans thread here...I posted a lot of great country

+1 On Marty Robbins. I just borrowed a box set that I bought for my Mom so I could burn it. He has such a smooth voice.

I love old country. I am old and country. Hank, Sr., Jim Reeves, Tammy Wynette, Marty Robbins, Patsy Cline and many more. Wanda Jackson is always good in my book. Try Youtube for her song "The Box That It Came In". Country with a humorous twist.

I'm a fan, Gun-Runner. Waylon covered Black Rose, but the quote you attribute to him was written by Billy Joe Shaver. He wrote most of the songs on Honky Tonk Heroes and he's still crankin out the real deal. Ray Wylie Hubbard, too.

Here's "The Last Cowboy" by Jamey Johnson:

I got both of his CDs this past weekend, and they are great!
The most country country artist out there today.
In fact, he is so good, that he probably won't be very successful with mainstram radio.
They usually don't get it, and push their pop music that passes for country today.

How about--Ray Wylie Hubbard---Hayes Carll---John Hiatt---Lucinda Williams---and as someone else said Billy Joe Shaver.

If you aint Waltzed across Texas with Ernest Tubb, then you aint listened to Country.

If you can't walk after midnight with Patsy or go to fist city with Loretta, you can take Johnny's job and shove it ! After the other Johnny takes it home one piece at a time, of course.
