Just have a curious question(or two) regarding a M70 Classic-Featherweight I bought recently.

I think this particular M70 Featherweight rifle may be one of the earlier built US Repeating Arms Mauser claw extractor CRF versions...which were supposedly re-introduced only in the Featherweight in 1992...and then the 'Classic' actions were offered in an extended line of M70 models in 1994.

Is that the way the Classic (controlled round feed..CRF) actions were introduced back in the day??....The Featherweight for a couple years(1992-94)..then in a wider variety of M70 versions in 1994?

I ask because this 'Classic-Featherweight' has a 5 digit serial number. The serial number having a G prefix and just under 25,000 serial range.

The rifle itself appears near identical to the Featherweight models offered today with the exception of the earlier style thin red-rubber butt-pad...and the extractor is blue rather than silver like the current versions.

There doesn't seem to be any reliable way to date US Repeating Arms Model 70 rifles...serial charts available for the pre-USRAC guns..but nothing newer than that.

I had another question about torqueing the three big action screws...but found some info on that online a bit ago. Seems the front and rear screws are the ones to get tight(like normal 'Mauser' floorplate screws)..the center screw just retains the front of the trigger-guard and needs to be snug...

Yes, tap the butt to make sure the action is fully bedded to the rear. Tighten the front screw first. Tighten the rear screw. The center screw will bend the action, tighten not like the front, and back it off.

Go to this link it mentions many of the questions you ask.
