Anybody like oysters?

Can't say that I really do. Or at least
compared to the other goodies I could get at
the usual seafood hut.. I like crab legs a lot
better fer instance..
But I don't like to mess around with appetizers
too long. Give me slabs of fish fillets.

YOU BETCHA'!
But only one of three ways?
Battered and deep fried, coated and sautéed, or raw on the half shell with a tap of Louisiana hot sauce.
OR? baked in as an oyster dressing in a turkey. Or? Well, you get the idea!

No body has mentioned the best way to eat them. In a gumbo. Shrimp & oyster gumbo, MMMMMMMM. But I like them anyway I can get them.

Love them, but in my late 30's I developed a shellfish allergy

. Man do I miss lobster and crab. Could have been worse though, It could have been a beer allergy

I used to love them. Then I got violently ill after eating a can of them. Do they still pack them in sardine cans? Now I can't stand the thought of them, even fresh ones.

YUCK!
I like the oysters-
BUT.......I never tried the snot on a rock. If you think it is so YUCK, why did you try it?

Pick that up in camel-land?

Also love them raw, but tell me about the bacteria rumors, please???? They are just a filter by design..... Wink

Our fearless leader has it exactly right...

They are little sewage treatment plants.. In with the "dirty water", out with the "clean".

Unfortunately, coliforms(the E.coli you hear so much about), vibrio, (one you don't hear so much about. It causes Cholera)and the hepatitis virus, all can be lurking inside the body. I will eat them steamed -on a grill til they pop open. That will kill the bugs and the hepatitis virus. Deep fat frying doesn't get an internal temp high enough to inactivate the virus. So it's like playing Russian Roulette.

YMMV

Time to play "Beer Hunter" then!
(EDIT)
BTW Lee, about the only way I haven't tried them would be as "snot on a rock" as Muley said?
I figure if I'm far enough from an ocean to be seeing Camel's, I'd likely not be tempted to try something with a decidedly mucous looking surface? But that could just be me?

Oysters,
Any way that I can think of but, fresh out of the ocean on the half shell is probably the best.

If you are ever near New Orleans try to get to Drago's rest. in nearby Metairie. Try the charbroiled oysters there, served with good french bread to sop up the sauce, they also have great oysters on the half shell and Mediteranean style crabmeat salad all very good .

Love oysters. Grew up living right on Hoods Canal, had oyster beds right out the front door. When I was a kid we would slurp them raw but now I like them pan fried gently in butter.

Better'n sex.

Luv's them little suckers, Thanksgiving dressing when I can get it.I am the only one in the family that likes them.My father and I used to get a gallon at Christmas time and make soup, he has been gone for 8 years now, miss that time we had.

Raw oysters reverse my normal peristaltic process, but I love them cooked any way I've ever heard of or tried. I usually whip up a "scalloped" oyster casserole during the year end holidays, and I really like them smoked/baked in a Cameron's Stovetop Smoker-Cooker, which is a kitchen implement I commend to anyone who likes seafood of any kind with a smoky flavor.

Best way to eat oysters.

Put them on grill, til the pop open. Then you put them in a sauce prepared earlier and broil 1 - 2 minutes. Sauce is YOUR blend. Put on a Georgia cracker, follow with ice cold beer. About three oysters per beer. Beer must be in bottle.

If you eat them raw, they crawl down your throat.

Sittin on the banks of the Swannee River and fishin is an added bonus!
