Anybody prefer magnas on a J frame?

I like them with a Tyler T Grip:

I like the way magnas look but not how they feel; too narrow in all the wrong places.

Never did get the T-Grip thing.

I'm a form-follows-function kind of guy; I'll take a nice set of rubber combat grips any day.

It seems like it would give you more room for your your fingers. Since everyone complains about not being able to get their pinky on there. But then I guess it gives you less real estate on the sides to get a good grip. I am thinking about trying a set out, just to see what I think. I'd probably have to wrap some rubber bands around them to give them some stickiness......

IMHO---THE SECRET TO USING PC MAGNAS ON ANY SIZE S&W FRAME, IS THE ADDITION OF TYLER-T GRIP ADAPTER. BEFORE YOU RESORT TO USING RUBBER BANDS, ON MAGNAS---CONSIDER ADDING A SET OF CRIMSON TRACE, LASER GRIPS, INSTEAD......

THIS WILL GREATLY ENHANCE THE SHOOTING EASE OF THE J FRAME, BY ADDRESSING A FEW SHORTCOMINGS. INSTEAD OF RELYING ON DIMINUTIVE FIXED SIGHTS---THESE ARE FULLY ADJUSTABLE FOR WINDAGE AND ELEVATION, BRINGING POI TO COINICIDE WITH POA, ONCE ZEROED. THEY PRODUCE A BRIGHT DOT, IN ANY KIND OF LIGHT, AT SD OR TARGET DISTANCES......

I PREFER THE LG-405 MODEL. THEY ARE LONG ENOUGH TO OFFER GREAT PURCHASE ON THE NON-SLIPPERY COMPOSITE GRIP MATERIAL. THEY HAVE AN AIR POCKET, MOLDED INTO THE COVERED BACK STRAP, THAT REDUCES FELT RECOIL---ANOTHER ISSUE WITH +P OR MAGNUM AMMO.....

BELOW ARE PICS OF MY L FRAME, WEARING PC MAGNAS, AND A TYLER-T, JUST TO ILLUSTRATE THE LOOK. MY 642-1 ILLUSTRATES A J FRAME, WEARING LG-405s, FOR COMPARISON......

I wear an XL size glove.

I like magnas a lot on J frames. In fact all my carry J frames wear magnas (I have a Model 60-10 that wears bananas). I must be crazy but I think I shoot better with them. I think that I can draw faster from appendix or pocket carry with them. I have experimented with different grips while doing point shooting. Magnas win every time. I think that if I get into a weapons retention battle, magnas are a big plus. I pocket carry most of the time and magnas are small so things are a bit easier. Loading is easier with magnas.

I don't know who at S&W designed the magna grip for J frames but they should be knighted or canonized or something.

I've used Pachmayr Compacs on my EDC J-frame for eighteen years. I pocket carry it, and have no trouble at all concealing it. The Compacs fit my largish, crippled-up hands very well, giving me purchase for a three-finger, high hold. They absorb recoil and reduce muzzle flip nicely. I took the magnas off when I bought the gun, and never looked back.

Magnas and a T-grip suit me fine on a K-frame, but for the J the Pachs work much better.

Tyler's a bit spotty on shipping. Unless you absolutely have to have Tyler's try BK grip adapters. Fast service, reasonable price and he's a member here. The only drawback is he only offers black or ivory plastic. I bought a J frame adapter for my CA Bulldog in black. I'm going to try painting it silver with Krylon to see how it holds up and looks.

Great thread.

Was just looking into this over the weekend and ordered a Magna for my 642 PC. Now searching for a brushed Al T-Grip.

If you feel led, post a pic up when you have the Magnas on it.

And yeah, I get the tyler T grip thing. I have one on my Colt DS and it makes it WAAAAY better. But what I'm getting at is if you leave one off on a J frame, wouldn't it be more likely to get your pinky on the stocks because it's a bit higher up in the frame. If you could somehow close the gap from the rear of the trigger guard to your middle finger, so it's not slapping it, that would be a bonus but a T grip brings your whole grip lower some. Hence the desire to try some rubber bands.

I've had this 642-1 for around twenty years I guess, and have tried
several brands and sizes. Finally settled on the Uncle Mike's boots,
shown in photo on the left. Not much to hang on to, but great for
concealment.

Then a while back I tried these Hogue "blue lavas", shown in photo
on the right. So far I like them a lot.
