Last year, went to a local gun show and purchased a 1951 Colt DS from a dealer, supposedly in it's original box. Got home, started to inspect the paperwork, then immediately went back to the gun show to negotiate a price "adjustment", since the box and paperwork were fake, a "Sparta Special". The dealer professed that he wasn't an expert on boxes or paperwork but wanted to know how I knew. Seems the list of dealers showed ZIP codes which didn't come into being until the early '60's...impossible to be included with a pistol made in 1951. We got a reasonable refund and left on amicable terms but now I'm very wary of any nice, boxed handguns...from any dealer, especially that one.
