Anyone else had this problem?

Autococker07,

Yeah im trying to find a strong enough hook to attempt that. I was trying a fishing hook and needle nose pliers earlier but just can get that grip to pull down the lever.

And dont worry that guy wont answer my phone calls and hasn't come around the house today

I had trouble pasting the url so if you can go to

smithandwessonforums (add www before .com after)
append to the above url
forum/s-w-semi-auto-pistols-forum/12183-new-owner-m-p45-problem-2.html

I cant get the URL to work. Do you know what the title of the posting is? I can search the forums for it

If I paste the 2 lines it works. If not the post is 12183 smithandwessonforums don't forget the www and the .com before then after. Hope this makes sense?

Thread title is Thread: New owner of M&P45 with problem.................

Based on the pics from the OP, I think I have your solution.

I believe the feed ramp is wedged under the trigger block. Here's a pic with the slide removed explaining what I mean:

Here's what it looks like with the slide on:

The fix is to give the slide a firm tap on the rear, like this:

By doing this you'll release the slide to chamber/feed ramp friction. If you try to push on the muzzle end, you'll only wedge it tighter. It may take a pretty good whack to get it loose.

When I duplicated your issue, I had the recoil spring out. Since your recoil spring is in there, you may have to hold the barrel as you strike the rear of the slide. Otherwise it might just wedge itself back in there as you try to dislodge it.

Let me know how this works.

Rastoff,

I tried that and the slide moved about an inch forward. Think you're right about the feed ramp. I've attached some pictures that show the progress but now it is locked up again. Im trying not to beat the thing to death but just a simple tap loosened that slide up a lot.

I've tried this with and without the magazine and it keeps stoping about 1/2" too short. I have no idea what it could be catching on but I am scared to beat on the slide and bend whatever it maybe catching on.

Guys,

I got it fixed. The sear deactivator was holding it back so I used a fishing hook and a pair of needle nose pliers to free it up then tapped on the back of the slide and it came right off. Thank you all the help. If you're ever in Eastern NC I'll buy ya a beer :D

Even though I had absolutely no input on this topic I'll take you up on the beer - as long as it's Milwaukee beer, lol.

I read the entire thread. Now that the gun is "fixed" it's time to "unfriend" someone. Good luck with that.

Does this work?

After inserting the mag and pulling back the slide 1/2" inch or so to reset the trigger, pull the trigger and push the mag release button. Make sure the take down lever stays pointed down and doesn't flip back to the horizontal position.

NVM, you got it. But you should be acquainted with releasing the slide without needing to pull that sear deactivator lever down.
