Anyone give up carrying for a while?

Giving up carry

How so? I travel quite regularly and encounter only minimal difficulties (never a problem) whilst toting on commercial airlines...in checked luggage, of course.

Be safe.

Here is what I mean. I have to go to the check in counter instead of getting my eticket at a kiosk. I have to check my baggage. I have to pay 25 bucks now for the honor of riding on their stupid airline and checking my bags. Then I have to hope that the idiots dont loose my luggage, which is in my case only a container holding my gun.....If I have to change planes there is twice the likeliness that the bag will get lost and then I have to hope that the criminals and thugs who work in the baggage room dont steal the gun....I can see no reason why retired law enforcement officers who carry proper identification or holders of concealed hand gun permits should not be able to carry on board.....even if the gun was locked aboard the carry on and they key retained by a flight attendant or given to the captain as one boards.....makes more sense than having guns floating around in luggage going to only who knows where.

I thought there was some court case which ruled that employers could not ban employees from keeping weapons in their cars while in company parking lots.
There have been several but this is a state issue. Some states have such laws but most do not. I do not know about Kansas.

Some employers go a wee bit overboard in their anti-gun political correctness. The benevolent a-holes I work for will not allow guns to be listed in the online employee want ads despite the fact that there is no law against individuals buying and selling guns from each other. As far as I know, however, there is no prohibition on having guns in your car. If there is, I've violated it quite a few times. I will openly confess to that 'crime' and if they choose to fire me, we'll let the court decide the issue, again if need be.

I could use some backpay.

I probably carry less than half the time so its not second nature to me, too many restrictions because of work, travel, etc.
Its a tough call, to be prepared for the worst or not.
What ever your choice, here's to you never needing to make the choice of needing to bust a cap on someone who desires it!

The only time I haven't carried in the past 23 years has been on airplanes and a trip to Belize.

Not carry? That's just crazy talk.

Alas, this state, while not terribly bad when it comes to gun laws, does have a stupid one that states that a firearm cannot be left unattended in a vehicle at any time. That means that if I have to go into a school or courthouse, I cannot just leave it in the truck.

I got booted from a gun forum a few years back because I hinted at breaking the law. It was a rule of theirs that no suggestion of breaking a law is permitted. One time and you are banned.

Now that said, here is my stand on leaving a gun in a car unattened.

Yes, there are times I have to do exactly that. We cannot check our guns at the courthouse door. You get that far with a gun and you are under arrest and will never see that gun again. This is a fact of life around here even for police officers. Unless you work in the courthouse and POST certified to carry, you will not have a gun there. So I leave my gun securely locked in my vehicle. This is my one exception to sticking to the law.

Now leaving the gun in the car elsewhere is another matter. I have tesitfied against many that may bear a grudge so I carry everywhere. In those places where I cannot carry, such as a Post Office, the gun remains in the car. However a gun in a vehicle is not legal on postal grounds. OK, I will break that law. If the SHTF on postal property I want to be protected as best as possible. Nobody will ever know the vehicle has a gun inside if I do not need it while driving on the property.

I go to areas that prohibit guns. I am not going back home hundreds of miles away to put my gun up. It comes off and goes where a casual search would not find it. However it stays with me. I will not spend any money in an area that will not allow my gun so motel stays are out. My motorhome has two guns inside. NO trips to Canada or Mexico for me.

If someone can tell me when exactly I will need my gun, then I will only carry during that time. A person can carry for 50 yrs and never need their gun but then they can be killed during the one day they did not have their gun.

I have needed my gun locally, in an AL motel, at a lakeside resort and a service station in Jackson MS. I would not have known in advance I needed it so I carry it all the time or have a gun within reach.

Oldman45- Well said.

Agree 100% on that. Course this is one of the reasons I rarely fly. First being I hate being treated like a terrorist by the TSA. Second that I can't carry anything more dangerous than a surefire bezel flashlight.

And here just like you said you make it into the courthouse with a gun you won't make it out with one.

I got that issue covered as well. First plane was a Cessna 172, second was a Cessna 182, current is a 210 on a time share. Over 7000 hrs PIC time, IFR, MEI rated. You can buy a nice private 2-6 seat plane for just a little more than a luxury car will cost. I can carry what I want and not have to worry about screeners. Still cannot carry firearms into other countries like the Bahamas and many others but then I do not care to go to those places either. Here to Atlanta GA by car is 12 hrs, in the plane just under 3. Here to Dallas by car is 3 hrs, by plane just under an hour.

It is all a matter of priorities in life. I hate government interference in my life. I do not feel the government can tell me where, when and how I can carry or even what I can carry.

There are exceptions and I have to endure those.

I've thought seriously about getting my license. I have flown small aircraft with friends several times. Actually enjoy it a lot. But along with several other things just have never gotten around to getting a license.

To me what has been said most often in correct. It's a personal decision that we can't fault someone else for not making. However it troubles me dearly that the ignorant geniuses in government decide that just because I enter a certain building which I pay for I lose my 2nd amendment rights. Or because I choose to fly that I lose mine.

I carry all day, every day. I own my own business, so the "boss" sure can't tell me not to. Just one more of the benefits of working for myself now.
