I have found it very difficult to really do an effective trigger job on any J Frame. I had one link of my trigger return spring removed on my 340PD, which lightned up the pull a fraction(maybe percieved), but any gunsmith will tell you the J Frames are tough to smooth up. I think the best thing you can do is replace the springs with a good kit from Wolfe which should help a bit.

myanof is spot on here. J frames are not the best for true action jobs. That being said, I did the work myself on my 340PD.

Put in a wolfe spring kit and completely inspected all the internal wear points with a jewelers loop.

I use ceramic stones rather than arkansas as I find they do a smoother finish.

After polishing the wear points I apply a small amount of molybdinum disulfide grease. Dry fire it a bunch after re-assembly to work the grease in then dissasemble and clean/oil normally.

It didn't make it so light as it made it real smooth.

YMMV

I did exactly the same thing as Himilage did.

I found that some ammo with hard primers would not touch off so I add a C&S extended length firing pin and that took care of it.

While I was inside I ground off the locks lug and polished the lock surface to a mirror.

I also spent a fair amount of time polishing inside teh rebound slide and squaring up the outside as well.

A few years ago, I bought a used 640 with a great action job. I just wish I knew who did the work, as the very old gentleman from whom I bought it did not remember or have any records. So I don't know that it's always the case that you can't get a nice action job for a J frame. Anyway, I'm having a local gunsmith (in Corrales, NM) work on a 60-10 right now.

Trigger job done on M&P 340

I purchased my 340 about a month ago and the after firing off 200 rounds of .38's, +P's and .357 Magnums. The trigger pull was still very heavy, approximately 8 to 9 pounds. My wife was unable to even pull the trigger once without struggling. I use the snub nose as a back up and as an off-duty weapon. If something was to go wrong, I wanted to be assured that my wife would be able to shoot the revolver effectively.

I took the 340 to a local gunsmith, Bolsa Gunsmithing, 7404 Bolsa Ave., Westminster, CA 92683, and had a trigger job done for 95 dollars. Within 3 hours, my weapon was ready to be picked up. I was absolutely amazed!!! The trigger pull reduced to 3 to 4 pounds. He told me that they polished all the internal parts and upgraded the springs. He didn't know what spring kits were used. You can check out their website for more details, Bolsa Gunsmithing

I brought it home and had my wife test the trigger out. She was able to pull the trigger rapidly 5 times with ease.

I would also recommend buying a Pachmayr Compact "J" frame round butt grips with the covered back strap. These grips are about the same length as the stocks but they were fatter and fits in my hands better. It absolutely reduced a substantial amount of recoil, but after 25 rounds of .357's its going to sting a little, not to the point where you lose a sense of feeling in the hand.

The Apex kit is getting great reviews. Definitely worth a look.
