Just filled out my background check papers today on my M&P 10 my first "AR" :D I will be picking it up in 10 days ( I live in the "Peoples Republic of Kalifornication" )
I would like some advice on some reasonably priced BUIS. The shop keeper said I could not use the polymer types on the front because of heat buildup on the top rail of the gas block.
Also do you have to get a set that is set up for the different rail hight between the gas block and the top reciever?
Would I be better off to save the money spent on BUIS and put it into a good optic and mount?
Any advice would be much appreciated. :)

If you can afford them, get TROY. They are much better than Magpuls and take a beating. They are IRON not plastic.

If you cannot afford Troy, then I would use magpuls.

Afford Troys. You won't break them and won't need to upgrade later!

I'd say save up for the Troy BUIS, I've got the Magpuls and intend to replace them with a set from Troy.

If you are shooting the M&P 10 get an optic and stretch that .308's legs a little bit. A good set of irons is going to cost as much as a lower price point (or used) nikon or leupold scope.

I would get a good set of BUIS, and learn to shoot with them well. Then start saving for other optics, whether it be a red dot type or scope, depending on your needs and desires.

I have the following Troy HK Folding Battle sights and like them.
Front https://troyind.com/products/hk-folding-sight-blk
Rear https://troyind.com/products/rear-folding-sight-blk

The Troy sight set recommended by Deeked in post #4 will NOT work https://troyind.com/products/micro-set-hk-front-and-round-rear-blk
I ordered these on the recommendation of someone on this forum, now I have a set I currently have no use for. Guess I need to buy a rifle they will fit.

Just curious as to the problem you had with the sights. My guess is the sit to low.

You are right, they sit to low.
With those sights on the M&P10, I and my son needed to uncomfortably grind our cheeks down on the stock to get lined up properly.

If you need to get rid of them let me know I'll use them on a couple Pistol builds I have going. PM Me. I'm in no hurry If you will match Primary Arms price.

Thanks to all who replied!

Thanks for all the helpful advice:)
