I have a recently acquired 649 no dash.
Is it ok to use .38+P in it?
My research says no but I have seen lots of folks who say they do with no problems.

Yes. It is OK to use +P ammunition in numbered models according to S&W.

That applies to K frames and larger, but not J frames.

Officially, no it is not rated for +P. But I'm doubtful you'll be putting a steady diet through it. Just do what Smith recommends and alot of us do on here. Practice with standard loads and use the +Ps sparingly (to test zero with your carry load).

Specifically, steel framed K frames. The M12 was never rated for Plus P.

Your right, keep forgetting about the M12.

I own a 649 no dash and called S&W customer service on this. Was told it's OK as long as you don't make it a steady diet.
