Are you an ammo hoarder?

If your friends in the fire department know not to even try if the fire is in your house.
If your friends in the fire department have a neighborhood evacuation plan in the event of a fire in your house.

You maybe an ammo hoarder if after you exceed the daily ammo purchase limit at your local Sportsman's Warehouse and you go outside to change your wardrobe/disguise so the clerk doesn't recognize you on subsequent passes through the checkout, or you find someone in the fishing department to make an ammo purchase for you.

Heck, that's only 2 boxes per caliber. How does anyone hoard at that rate??

Here's some I will admit to:

When you say you only have a couple cases, and what you mean is per brand (Fiocchi, S&B, Blazer Brass, Herters, PMC, PPU, WWB etc), per caliber.

When you want to see how one of your pistols runs with NATO-spec 9mm, and you realize you can test it with ammo from every NATO country.

When someone asks about the difference between any 2 brands (no matter how relatively obscure), and your standard answer is "well, let's go see" and you grab a couple boxes of each.

My better half walked into my loading area and asked "Oh My God, how much ammo do you think we need?" I answered "Oh My God, how many pairs of shoes do you need?" She walked away and never said another word!!

Mine does the same with gardening. So when she says anything about my "stuff", I bring up her "stuff". Usually she ends the discussion by going to her garden........

What if you have 2 or 2-1/2 times that much/many?
I think it's a mix of how much and how old to be a hoarder. For instance if you *still* have unopened 12Lb metal cans you can be pretty sure you are a hoarder, while if all your powder is less than a couple years old then you are just a volume user.
So to go with that in the Jeff Foxworthy theme:

If you own more than two powders that you have to use old editions of the reloading manuals to get data for...

You know your hoarder when your family & friends place reservations to show up at your place when things get bad.

If they can't bring guns & ammo then Toilet Paper, food, meds, supplies, anything to hunker down & defend.

But you see I look at things a little different.
I have pistol/carbine combos for 357/38, 44mag/spl, 9mm, 45acp, 5.56 & 22LR, L, mag calibers using the same mags except revolvers / lever guns.

Close range 12 gauge (56 round bandoleers)

Distance guns in 5.56, 270 Win, 308.

That way as you make your way to a safe place or place to place you can pick up ammo along the way & have the guns to use as needed.

Unfortunately you know that there will be low life human beings that will be selfish, cruel, self centered only thinking of themselves instead of building a better society after the chaos that has us either getting along or annihilation of humanity as we know it. You know what to do with these people, take their ammo & guns the only way these people would treat you!

Honestly, is there an ammo shortage ? I never knew, I'd better go to the cargo container and, check out what I have left. There is an aisle to manuver in the middle...not bad it's only a 20 foot container.

Where did you get it? Great price? Best I've seen is $119.99. My Ruger III .22LR only likes CCI Standard Velocity.

Bet there might be even more hoarders the next time a shortage comes around. That's if this one dries up someday.
I'm beginning to think this is going to be the " New Normal" .

We used to go 10-12 years between shortages , then it went to 6-8 year shortage cycle , then every 4 years (election ?) cycle ...
Now it's just one long can't get , sold out , on back order , out of stock , check back in 30 days ...never ending shortage cycle .

When you can't even buy a two cavity Lee bullet mould ...
... Something's Wrong .

Wife blames everything on Covid ... I hope that ends soon , I'm sick of it ! ( bad pun intended ...sorry about that !)

"Are you an ammo hoarder?"

Yes I am! And proud of it. I have tens of thousands of rounds of factory ammunition, almost all of it is high-end defensive/LE issue.

I began my hoarding in 2017 when prices seemed to be rock bottom, and continued through 2020 until the panic buying drove prices through the roof. I am set for life, but I will continue to buy if or when I find a reasonable deal.
