Arkansas Chiggers

Chiggers are terrible. My first Summer Camp at Camp Shelby, Mississippi was a disaster because of them. We had an "attack" by tanks as we drove in, and most of us did not apply sulfur or any kind of anti chigger defense before we lay down in the weeds. Turned out the attack by chiggers was a lot worse than the tank drill, and I had dozens of bites. They finally got some kind of ointment that helped us survive.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

I once had a bad case of chigger bites and googled them. What Rusty said is true. During my rehab, I saw a ad for preperation H. Cools sensitive tissue, relieves itches, promotes healing. Hmmm. it works.

Rusty1953's seminar on Chigger bites is accurate. After reading his post, each member is entitled to one hour of college credit in Chiggerology.

Stand by for "Effective anti-aircraft tactics when battling mosquitoes!"

Really, Rusty's post is everything you need to know about fighting chiggers! Well done!

The chiggers, ticks and mosquitos are so bad bad here in this state that when you consider the extremely large venomous snake population also, can not understand why anyone would want to relocate to Arkansas.

I have a small creek that cuts across my backyard . No chiggers on the near side . If I go to the other side it's a pretty good bet I'll get some bites . I don't understand it ...

Chiggers must not have a Navy! I think much of their spread is related to wildlife—deer, coyotes, coons, possums—basically any fur bearer. I wonder if your local critters pretty much stay on the other side of the crick?

Here in East Tn. chiggers are the worst I have ever seen or felt.
I use Chiggerex 2X Power along with Repel Sportsmen Max, 40% DEET.

You failed to mention tornadoes.

Apparently, things are so bad on the two left coasts that people are relocating there in spite of nature's welcoming committee.

When Carol was about ten or eleven we went to Lake Texoma for a few days and because of Chiggers it changed to only one night.
Carol and I had waded out in the lake trying to reach some surfacing Sand Bass. What we did not realize was that the waves were washing up on some grass and the water was loaded with Chiggers.
Carol's body was covered with bites and she was so miserable we decided we would go home. I had some but not the quantity that she had. It didn't kill her love for fishing but gave her a life long hatred of Chiggers.

I remember getting them as a kid here in central Ohio. We would be out rolling around in the grass in the summertime and paid the price ! I really can't recall what mom rubbed on us, but we learned not to roll in the grass anymore !

Thanks Puller and John for reminding me of some other great reasons why folks should not relocate to here.

Trying to stem that Colorado/ Austin style invasions.
