Hey everyone I found some very interesting pieces of FBI literature today at a local gun show, all 8 of the booklets have S&W model 1076 FBI serial numbers, 6 of the books have agents names who each gun was assigned to, a couple have pistol qualifying targets, am going to list them for sale any ideas on value?

The following is a list of the 1076 serial numbered booklets
TFS3278
VBE9685
TFN9852
THD0311
THC9391
THC6695

Before you list them for sale, list the pistol serial numbers to allow the owners to reunite the pistol with the documentation. Well I can hope that some members have those pistols, but I realize that that would be a long shot. Cool find, I have never seen anything like them.

Search for the retired fbi agents association. Send them e mail with any agents names u have express your desire to give them first dibs. They should forward your offer to them keep u in the dark so to say. If any reach out great. If not you made the most appropriate gesture possable.

These equipment receipts and booklets are all for Performance Center FBI 1076s issued to Agents in May 1993. The FBI received approx. 2,500of these pistols and not all of them were issued. Most Agents turned in the Sig 226s they had been issued when their original 1076s were recalled by the Gun Vault. There is very little chance any of these pistols survived the FBI's destruction program.

dmc8163,

Did the 2,500 Performance Center 1076s receive a stamp that was not stamped on the rest of the FBI 1076s?

Hi, any idea how much your going to want? I am interested in the THC9391 as it is very very close to one of my FBI's. Thanks

I don't know if the PC 1076s had a special stamp. Other than the one I was issued in 1993 and turned in to the Gun Vault in 1998 I have never seen one up close. Theoretically they should have all been destroyed. But it is likely that a few made it into public hands. E.g., unissued or defective and returned to S&W for some reason. I know of two that I strongly suspect are PC pistols but I have no means to inspect them. What stamp are you referring to? I think I'm familiar with all the pre-PC pistol stamps.

The only person I know that might be able to answer the unique inspection stamp on PC 1076s on this forum is WESMAN. Is anyone in contact with him?

I did not mean to imply that I might have an FBI owned PC 1076. I was just curious.

No worries. It's actually a good question. Is there a stamp on a PC FBI 1076 that distinguishes it as a PC assembled pistol? The other person that could answer that question is Paul Liebenberg of Pistol Dynamics in Florida. He was the last known owner of PC FBI 1076 Serial #TFP3355. This was the go to tech pistol used for all tech questions, e.g., measurements, tolerances, etc.

Interesting that there are VBE serial numbers there. I have a VAE 1076 that I always thought was a pretty late prefix range for a 10mm. I didn't expect any FBI guns to be even close to mine, let alone after.

So does anyone know what serial number range were FBI guns? I've got TFP8XXX and am wondering if it could be an FBI gun.

Chief Wahoo, got my booklet and I love it. It's a very cool little piece of 1076 memorabilia.

clang444, DMC has all the serial number info so he can likely tell you a range but there are easier ways to speculate if your 1076 is an FBI gun. Some examples would be the wording on the slide, grip type, and or checkering or lack of on the face of the trigger guard and front strap of the grip. Still, none of those things will definitively ID it as an FBI gun, but simply narrow down the possibility.

Thanks dacoontz,

My gun has a lot of handling marks, but little internal wear. It has fixed night sights that are just about dead, and came with the straight backed grip. There is checkering on the front of the trigger guard and serrations on the front of the grip frame.

Under the ejection port it says:
"CAUTION: REFER TO INSTRUCTION MANUAL"
on the slide. On the right side of the frame below the caution statement is a S&W logo about 1/2" across with "TRADE" above it and "MARK" below it. Under "MARK" it says "REG.U.S.PAT.OFF.

The left side of the slide is marked:
"SMITH & WESSON"
"SPRINGFIELD, MA U.S.A."

The left side of the frame is marked:
"TFP8XXX"
"MOD 1076"

The top of the barrel is marked "10 MM" which you can see through the ejection port. Spurless hammer.

Here is an old picture of it with it's new set of wooden Hogue grips that I adapted for the frame mounted decocker. I still have the delron S&W grip that came on the gun when I got it in one of my grip drawers. Part of SN has been blemished out of the picture:
