As I near the end of the bullseye league season, I am nearly out of the recommended CCI SV ammo for my Model 41 and cannot find any locally. I have looked at the Federal AutoMatch which has a muzzle velocity of 1200 fps. Will this slightly faster ammo do any damage to my 41 ?

I like Federal AM in my stock Ruger 10/22... VERY reliable feeding and VERY consistent groups for bulk-type ammo. I have an unopened box now that I want to try in my 22A-1. If (and it's a big IF) it feeds reliably in my 22A I plan on using it for steel match and Ruger Rimfire Comps (if they ever come to town).

I would recommend sticking with SV ammo while using the stock or reduced weight recoil springs. Is any other SV ammo available? At 1200 fps the AutoMatch is not as fast as some HV loads and probably won't hurt a thing, but I would test it first for proper feeding and ejection in your 41.

Not if you use the standard recoil spring.

I'm not sure what the velocity of Auto Match is out of a 5" barrel, but I'm sure it's much less than 1200 fps.

BTW: Several years ago when I bought my Model 41, I called S&W customer service and asked out ammo choices. I was told the 41 is an all steel gun and safe to fire with any .22 ammo including high velocity. It's just generally more accurate with some of the slower stuff.

There being no CCI SV available locally for a while I tried Federal Target listed at 1080 fps in a newly acquired used 41. My last 100 rounds of CCI SV went through the 41 with no problems at all. The Federal Target in 50 rounds had 3 FTF, 2 stove pipe, and a few FTE/FTL. I guess this is why we also have revolvers too.

You can order CCI SV from Midway, or Dick's Sporting Goods. Dick's sells bricks at a very reasonable price.

Try Champion Shooters Supply for CCI SV....bought a case last Friday @$273 to my door....they now have it in 50 round paper boxes....

As of a few days ago Target Sports USA had CCI SV. On sale too - $272.90 for a case but they did say that due to the volume of sales shipping was running 5 to 7 days slower than usual.
