My ejector moves in and out about a eight of a inch. I called S&W and they told me this was nomal. ( think not )
Broke it in on cci minni mag then some Federal 550 all working great. Then all of a sudden it won`t shoot the 550`s. Tried the ejector ajustment on the web site things remained pretty much the same. Trip to my trusted gun smith he alter the feed lips on two magazines. Dissembled all 3 and cleaned and lubed. Work great for about 200 rounds then went back to what it was.( FTE,FTF stove pipes ) My opinion is it`s the loose ejector. I think it will blow out of there eventuality and then well see what S&W have to say. Gun serial DUM so the updates should be done.
I sent a email to S&W last nite:
Hi Smith & Wesson,

On approximately July 28, 2010 I purchased the M&P 15-22. The rifle worked great at first than all of a sudden it starter to jam almost every round. After inspection my ejector moves in and out about a eight of a inch. Broke it in on cci minni mag then some Federal 550 all working great. Then all of a sudden it won`t shoot the 550`s. Dissembled all 3 magazines and cleaned and lubed them. Work great for about 200 rounds then went back to what it was.( FTE,FTF stove pipes ) My opinion is it`s the loose ejector. I think it will blow out of there eventuality and I hope no one get`s hurt. Gun serial DUM xxxx so the updates should be done. I think it need`s to come back to S&W for repair. This Rifle of the year need`s a little work. Thank you.

I heard from S&W this morning after emailing them last nite.
Their response:
You are right. I attached free shipping and instructions.

Thank You
S&W
Joe :)

glad to hear it was easy. seems like we are seeing more and more problems with the newer "fixed" ones, once they start to get past the break in period.

i wont lie i will be pissed if i have to send mine back but it seems the customer service by S&W is very understanding and takes care of its customers

Mine developed the exact same problem. Ran great for 600 rounds of Federal 550 bulk 36gr HP, 200 rounds CCI Minimag. Then out of nowhere it started to FTE/stovepipe 1-2 times per magazine with CCI and every 2-3 rounds on Federal.
When I broke it down and inspected it, the ejector was loose and would wiggle about 1/16 of an inch in every direction.
Called them on Monday and they emailed the return shipping label, so I'll be dropping it off at FedEx after work.

I took the scope and bipod off,do I need to put the oringinal sights back on? Yes it`s great that their standing behind their Rifle of the Year. The first time I called them they said it was nomal for the ejector to move around. Didn`t sound right so I waited a month then sent them a email last nite.

If you have the sights handy, wouldn't hurt to put them on as a precaution. If S&W customer service is anything like Ruger customer service (they are also excellent), they will remove any non-factory parts they found that you have installed and replace them with Ruger parts. They are obligated to return the gun to you in factory configuration as described by the serial number.

In your case, S&W may tell you something like - Hey, we reinstalled new sights and it will cost you this $$ in time and material that isn't covered by warranty.

That`s exactly what I was thinking. I have a Ruger Mark III
22/45 and I know they do that. There going on just to be safe. Thanks

I sent my 15-22 back a few weeks ago without the iron sights. Got it back with no new sights. No extra mag for the trouble either. But it sounds like they aren't doing that anymore. They would be handing them out left and right!

I sent mine in with a couple aftermarket parts (FH and Stock) and it came back with them still installed. I didn't get a free mag but they fixed the gun so its all good. I guess it would be fun to e-mail or call S&W and tell them that I heard other customers are getting a free mag for their trouble but I didn't. Did they do something to make them a more valued customer than I am? Just to see how S&W takes it haha. I'm evil

Mine got there today too. I bet the holidays will delay getting it repaired/returned.
Oh well.

Yeah it`ll take a little longer but than we`ll be done with it.
Hopefully we`ll have many years of shooting bliss.

Does anyone know what S&W is doing to these late S/N guns to fix them that they aren't doing in production/assembly? What is the ejector fix?

Both of our ejectors somehow became loose and can be wiggled around 1/16" in all directions. This is obviously not how the ejector is supposed to function, and is causing the failure to eject/stovepipe problems we both saw. Since both of us were able to run a substantial amount of Federal bulk through our rifles before this problem started, it seems that the ejectors were originally solid and became loose at some point after we bought our rifles.
I expect that the rifles will be returned to us with solidly installed ejectors, and our FTE/stovepipe problems will be gone.

I intend to share the whole process with the forum.
What might make this interesting is that CrazyFingers and I have the same problems and our rifles arrived at the same time. Will our experience with S&W be the same? STAY TUNED.
