Love the 640, but was too heavy for me in the pocket or ankle holster. Went to the 642, like it a lot, but not the quality gun the 640 was. Miss the smoother double action. The 642 is my go to concealed gun with the XDs.
Being in MA, a lot of those nice older smith's or ones w/o locks are hard to come by...How about a 640 and a spare cylinder converted to 9mm?

If you went with a newer 640, you would have the option of changing the front sight.
I vote for an Airweight like the 442 or 642 pro if you can. Granted a 640 or 649 would be nice.
The drum roll you hear is member Kasskop49 on his way.![]()
A revolver is a work of art.As much as I like the 442 and 642, and the Centennial design, my vote goes to Shield.
Holds about 50% more ammo, less felt recoil, lighter trigger pull, easy to hit the target, 9mm in a "premium load" is a better stopper than premium 38 Special, faster follow-up shots, easier faster reloading, and less in the way of service issues as the 9mm auto will require less service and last longer. Plus, I think the Shield is just as easy to pocket carry as a J frame, which encourages carry. The other features encourage practice, and no matter what anyone says, a J frame is simply not comfortable to shoot over the long haul.

A pistol is a machine.
Depends on my mood on what I carry.
But kudos to everyone who does.
Unload a cylinder full of 38 in a timed / stressful event and you dont even feel the recoil in the least.
What front sights are available for the 640-1?
How about a 640 and a spare cylinder converted to 9mm?
Now, you've got me thinking.![]()

Akin to holding a lit lady finger loosely in your fingers and letting it go off.Anyone who likes the idea of shooting .357 Magnum in a 14 ounce revolver is a better and/or crazier man than I ......
