Barbecue Sauce Recommendation Needed

I used KC Masterpiece until they went with the HF corn syrup. Now make my own and it is somewhat like the Kansas City sauces. Being
type 2 diabetic I cut way down on the sweet stuff. Went way up on
the hot stuff. I find that the region of the country has a big influence
on the type of BBQ sauce people prefer. I've made a vinegar heavy
sauce and was not to my liking, everyone's taste is different.
Most of the time I go sauce free and just eat the BBQ with the rub and
smoke flavors.

But it depends on what the meat is. I like Memphis dry rub ribs and my favorite is from the Commissary in Germantown. For pulled pork Williamson Brothers from NW Atlanta is hard to beat. Texas Brisket needs to be a sweet and tangy sauce. Then there is the Carolina mustard sauces and the north Georgia vinegar based sauces.

Cattlemen's Kansas City Classic is my go to.

Cattleman's Carolina Tangy Gold is great for pulled pork.

I like a few others but these two seem to stay in rotation in the pantry and fridge.
 
Aldies stores actually have a pretty good sauce they call North Carolina style. I don't know about being NC style but it is a pretty good mild mustard based sauce. Assuming you like mustard based, which I do.
 
My two recommendations are Stubb's and Jack Miller's. Stubb's is a traditonal Texas BBQ sauce, and is one of the only store bought sauces that taste homemade. Jack Miller's is perhaps the most unique BBQ sauces around. It is a Cajun BBQ sauce from Ville Platte. However, it is not overly spicy and has a wondeful flavor profile. While I never mixed it with Italian dressing, cutting it with oil makes it a great basting sauce. Cooking with Jack Miller's, either indoors or outdoors, smells like heaven.

Jack Daniels's sells a decent BBQ sauce as well, that is not spicy at all.

I prefer the vinegar based sauces. Most of the store bought sauces are far too sweet for me, and taste like ketchup. I suppose in a pinch I might use KC Masterpiece. I wouldn't give Hunt's or Sweet Baby Ray's to an enemy of the state!
 
We love to smoke a lot of meats. Recently came across this recipe and all I can say is it is fantastic! Sassy sauce!
Kansas City BBQ Sauce
Ingredients
 14 oz can crushed tomatoes
 1 cup ketchup
 ¾ cup brown sugar
 ½ cup apple cider vinegar
 ½ cup molasses
 1 Tablespoon smoked paprika
 1 Tablespoon salt
 2 teaspoons ground black pepper
 1 teaspoon chili powder
 1 teaspoon garlic powder
 1 teaspoon onion powder
 ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
 ½ teaspoon ground mustard
Instructions
1. Combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan. Whisk to combine. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low to simmer.
2. Simmer for 20 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and allow to cool completely before transferring to an air tight container.
3. This sauce can be used immediately, but I recommend refrigerating overnight for the best flavor. This sauce will last 2 weeks in the refrigerator if sealed tightly in an air tight container.
 
For me its all original Kansas City BBQ sauce. Its sold in bottles. Jacks Stack, Joe's KC (Oklahoma Joe's), Curly's, q39 (a little pricey) Arthur Bryant's. All the rest are just some dressed up messed up ketchups.
 
I've discovered LILLIE'S BBQ sauce. Only one mention of it in previous posts. It's available online and at GFS (Gordon Food Service)
There are different levels of heat available, including mustard based.
Try it, I think you'll like it.
 
I do not like my BBQ sauce loaded with sugar. If it is a "sweet" sauce, it doesn't get bought. The sauce I have found which I like the best is called "Rudy's" and I have gotten it at Rudy's BBQ in San Antonio., TX. Rudy may have other locations in TX but I only had business in the San Antonio area.
 
Peter Luger's Steak Sauce! Mild, tasty, and even taste great on a salad or with Chicken or fish - obviously great on steaks. I buy it in the Supermarket here - but don't know if you can get it in NC stores. If not available locally, you can order online.

That looks similar to the sauce I make except I leave out the
ketchup and sugar. Also add more Cayenne pepper and Tabasco (buy it by the quart) to add some heat.
 
You're in Cary, just take a drive down I-40 to exit 319 and try the sauces at Redneck BBQ Lab. They have some really good ones. My personal preference is just a traditional eastern NC vinegar and red pepper sauce though.
 
I recently started trying reduced Balsamic Vinegar on meats and fish with great results. Plus it's actually very good for you.
To make a reduced BV, take a bottle of BV and heat it on low in a sauce pan until you see the water vapors rising, continue until the volume has
reduced by half and that's it. very tasty.
