Hi folks!
Long story short, I've had this heavy barrel for a few years, just sitting in my box of parts that i don't use - and was recently thinking about putting it on a revolver.

About the barrel - its about 6 inches, and judging by the length of the forcing cone area, i'm assuming its for a K frame .38. My assumption is also based on the marking "K 85" stamped on the recessed area where the ejector rod would fit into (My apologies, I don't know all the technical terms or nomenclature).

My question is - despite my assumptions that this is made for a K frame revolver, would I be able to fit this on a L frame .357?

If i could, i was going to put it on something like a 681, and have a pic rail carved out of it - unfortunately, I don't have any pics of this barrel, or the Bo-Mar rib sight that was also with it, but if need be, I will try to get some pics posted - if it helps.

Many thanks in advance,

rd

A K frame barrel will not fit on an L frame revolver. The barrel shank is too small in diameter, and the barrel bore axis-to-extractor rod axis is different.

If your spare barrel came with a Bomar barrel, it is almost certainly a K frame. They were a very popular combination back in the 1970s-1990s.

Thanks for your reply. you got me thinking - and I did what I should have done before posting - measure the outside diameter of the forcing cone area...

Sure enough, it was too small for the 686 I have, but matches the 19 exactly. I guess i'm going to have to find me a .357 K frame then... unless I'm wrong - I'm going to assume that i can cut back the forcing cone area to accommodate the longer .357 cylinder?

Thanks,

Yes, you can cut down the barrel shank on a K-38 barrel to fit the K frame magnum. It will require re-cutting the forcing cone, of course.

Roger.

I guess that'll mean that I should find start looking for a M-65 or M-66... (I prefer stainless). Unless that is, people have other recommendations.

john, many thanks for your help.
