Big Bore Snubbies?

What about a Rossi .44 special?

I have one on loan from a cousin - should I make an offer?

I guess these three apply ... 624, 696, and Ruger Alaskan in .44 mag (with 624 for comparison).

The target is from this afternoon's range session. Drawn from the holster and fired double action, the Alaskan does the job well. It's a big clunker of a revolver, but it's dead on accurate. I was shooting HSM 240g Specials, so recoil was minimal. Even an anvil of a snubbie can work wonders with some practice.

I think I've got your gun's cousin. Born in 1913. It did a little time in His Majesty's service.
Different cylinder and barrel, and now its a .45 Colt.

It don't beller, don't kick, light to pack, and still packs a purty good punch.

Iggy
that is sweet !!!!

These two are not smiths, but do carry and shoot quite well.
I do wish smith had made some like this instead of the Governor. At only 24oz. loaded, think 45 Colt airweight!

Titanium

Ultralite

a couple of nice 45 colts.

A titanium AND an ultra lite. I've handled a titanium but not an ultra lite. My understanding is the ultra lite is only 2 oz heavier than the titanium.

Best of both portability and power.

If the OP shops around I'm sure they can find something to fit their need.

Dave

Dave the ultralite is 20 ounces, just 0.2 ounces heavier, so basically the same. I carry that one often, as it cost me about 1/3 the price of the titanium. I shoot them both regularly though, as I do most of what I own. I stupidly passed on an all stainless one a couple of years ago, still kick myself for that decision. I do have one in 41mag, now that is a hoot to shoot!

Iggy,
Check the bottom of your barrel. If the SN there is the same as the gun, it was shortened, not replaced. The Mod for the cylinder is pretty simple too - lengthen the chambers and recess or shave down the back of the cylinder so that 45 Colt will fit between the cylinder and frame.

The barrel is shortened a .45ACP that replaced the original .455 barrel some time in the past. The shortened barrel 45 ACP was bulged somewhere along the line before I got it.

That barrel is currently being replaced again with a "new" surplus Brazilian model 1937 barrel that will be chopped to the same configuration. The cylinder is a post war .45 Colt, thus I can shoot modern .45 ammo rather than worry about blowing up a .455 cylinder. I've still got the .455 cylinder.

This gun is just a cobbled up old rascal that's gonna be packed everyday by an old coot in about the same shape.

It just struck a chord when I first saw it. Built 4 years before my Dad was born. A resurrected old timer with no collector value, lighter than a current .45 revolver with that "old timey" charm and still packs a wallop.

It's just two old timers hobblin' along in our dotage doin' the best we can and havin' a good time doin' it.:)

Snubby with an attitude

My snubby: Kinda heavy and hard to conceal...

HOWEVER, just the sight of it will generally make perp turn & run.

I have a 325PD that's pretty light but as bulky as my 629 and 24. I do have a Taurus .41 mag snub in 5 shot that fits in an L frame holster but speed loaders are hard to find for it. Mine shoots factory ammunition okay but Starline brass has a thicker rim and binds in that gun. Maybe a defect but don't want to send it to Taurus and just shoot factory in it.
I agree though S&W has missed the boat with regards to big bore L frames.
