Binoculars, Any suggestions?

Ask your question on a bird watching site. They'll make sure you get a binocular the fills your need and the best bang for your bucks.

It's akin to coming to this site to ask advice on a S&W revolver.

If the price of any optical device fails to make you scream bloody murder it probably won't be good enough.

This goes for binoculars, camera lenses, and rifle scopes.

I sold two nice N frames to pay for a pair of Swarovski EL binoculars. Those glasses are worth every bit of the $1800 they cost.

I second this. I've got a pair of Steiner 8x30 Military Marine binoculars I bought at the Ft Bragg PX in 1989 for $159 and they are still as clear as when they were new.

They went with me to Desert Storm and since then they've been beat up and rattled around in the Jeep and sloshed around in the bottom of the canoe (in their case).

We had them out just a couple of weeks ago looking at the Lulin comet and they still are great.

Good optics are worth the money, IMHO.

Because of my personal economics (thre kids)I use Bushnell Trophies 8 X 40, cheap, adequate and have held up so far for five years of some rough and constant use. I got them for $80.
My dream glass is Steiner Merlins but I've been told that there are better glasses out there fr the money. Sierra Trading Post. com offers some pretty good discounts on Steiners.

I use Nikon Monarch 10X42's for prairie dog hunting, where you spend hours looking through them. My eyes never get tired. I did look through a pair of Nikon Edge 10X42 last fall, and they are AMAZING, but for $3000 they should be.

Try as many different manufacturers as you can. The top brands have already been mentioned by other members. You probably wouldn't go wrong with any of them, but absolutely buy the best you can afford. When it comes to optics, you really do get what you pay for.
You'll be much happier in the long run if you buy quality optics right from the get-go.
