Bodyguard 2.0 Finally Released

There's a very favorable 'first shots' review by Honest Outlaw' on youtube. He's not getting lock back because of his huge hands and a reluctance to modify his grip. His wife had no issues with it.

Is it the same safety as the one in the Shield Plus? I have the original Bodyguard and the Shield Plus, both with safety. I wish they were a bit easier to use. I can do it easily, but under pressure, who knows? With the long trigger in my Bodyguard once it’s in the holster I take the safety off with no worries. But a 4 pound trigger on a pocket gun? Safety is a must for me.

Now they need to make a 'Tactical' version with a 3.5" to 4" barrel to get the most out of the 380 cartridge.:D

How did it take this long for another manufacturer to develop competition for the LCP Max?

No interest for me. I'm all stocked up on Max and accessories.

I do wonder how easy or hard it will be to manipulate the tiny safety on the modelmthat has one.

Okay. I saw, handled, and dry fired the Bodyguard 2.0 today. It looks and feels great. First, I was struck by its small size. It's hard to gauge size from the marketing photos because the general shape is so similar to the Shield and M&P. Here's a photo next to a $50 bill for comparison. The slide is no wider than my index finger. The grip is more substantial than other "micro" guns. It FEELS like an easy shooter. Feel like I could actually hit something with this gun. I think it is a winner. Looks good. Great size. Capacity. Ya, I'll probably just go get one soon.

To give some folks an idea the height and length are practically identical to a Colt Mustang.

I was pleasantly surprised just now to see Handgun Hero has added the BG2 to the options for side by side and overlap comparisons. I just compared it to my Bodyguard. I dunno - seems enough bigger it would be a
Noticeable difference in my pocket.

I have a first issue Bodyguard which now has a deactivated laser, removed battery. I have never had any problems with it and it is surprisingly accurate. I have no doubt that the updated version will be a very good, easily concealed firearm, but for me, I cannot conceive of a more practical, easy to carry, and safe pocket carry pistol than the original. I seem to be in the minority with the trigger pull opinion of the original, I like it a lot. I find it easy to stage and I am confident it will not fire unless I mean it to. Also I'm not too hung up about capacity.

I'm back...with S&W again thanks to the Bodyguard 2.0.

I've been saying for YEARS, I wanted a G42 with a longer grip and metal magazine that held 10-13rds of 380, but S&W beat them to it. I would LOVE to see a 3.25" barrel version...or maybe a 3.33" with the new-style chunk port (a "Performance Center" model). :)

I'll be shooting it today, but my initial impressions are that it's thinner than my Ruger LCP MAX ELITE. The slide, .75", is probably really close, but the grip at .875", is just soooo thin. The 10rd & 12rd grip sizes are nearly perfect, though I would love a 1/3" pinky extension for the 10. It really does feel like a toy--like a comically scaled down Shield. I think they should have called it the "Shieldguard" or "BodyShield". The beavertail is so high up, that the rear of the grip is almost as long as a P365X (a 12rd gun). The front of the grip is also undercut and just a bit shorter than the front of the P365X. The trigger on mine is amazing. My 78yr old retired LE dad was about to get a G42 for ankle carry (I'm thinking at church), but I bet hell get this instead.

As someone who carried an LCP MAX ELITE 65% of the time (and a P365X 33%, and an 80X 2%), I'm in love with this gun; if it is reliable, it'll for sure be the gun I carry 80% of the time).

----
The ONLY cons I've found so far:
1. The rear sight notch is just a hair too wide for my liking though maybe I'll be surprised on the range today. I'm sure it's going to be fast up close, but I like to be able to hit a head at 25Y and center-mass at 50Y, even with my tiny guns. **I'm much more accurate with the G42 than the LCP MAX ELITE. The G42 has so little recoil that I think it reduces my flinch, which explains why I shoot it so well...and the LCP MAX isn't far behind other than the fatter front sight.

2. The mag-release sticks out quite a bit. I don't need/want that in a pocket gun, and though I only use Kydex, I can see people who use the soft or leather pocket holsters getting their mag-release accidentally actuated. If my gun is reliable, I will likely be filing down my mag-release by at least 25-33% (I'd guess the aftermarket will get on it as well).

3. I don't know for sure, but it APPEARS like you might have to drift off the rear sight to get the back-plate off. I like to do a deep cleaning every 1K-2K rounds, and don't look forward to having to drift sights (but I could be wrong--I haven't messed with it enough to know for sure yet).

4. The trigger guard is really small. I don't mind, but this might bother anyone who uses gloves--it's way smaller than the LCP MAX. I thought this would bother me, but so far I haven't even noticed it in dry-fire.

5. I don't like external safeties, so I got the "NTS" model. However, the one on this seems really small. IF I liked safeties, I think I would want something more like the one on the P365...a bit longer and wider.

6. A 2.75" barrel isn't bad, but I personally will only carry FMJ and Underwood Xtreme Penetrators in it (even though the manual says NOT to shoot +P, I think the lighter weight of the Underwood means that it's not going to spike the pressure like a 90gr +P would). I know for pockets, the 2.75" is better, but I carry IWB, so a 3.25" would have been fine by me...and the extra half inch would add 40-70fps, which might help with the better HPs like XTP & HS DEEP. And I think a 3.4" barrel with a little 1/3" chunk port would be super cool (though I understand that very few others would want that).

I just got the Bodyguard 2.0 today and I can tell you it's got the best trigger of ANY carry gun I've ever had (which is a lot). It breaks very cleanly at an average of 3 pounds and the sights are really nice for its purpose. I shoot it tomorrow.

Yeah, stock pictures make it look like no smaller than any other Shield. Thanks for the comparison picture.
