Bodyguard 380 trigger pull

Finally got my BG380. Very excited & loving this gun until I put the first shots through it. Something must be wrong.......

UPDATE: Got my gun back from S&W. Fixed! Based on FedEx tracking info, it only spent one full day with them before they had it out the door back to me. Put 150 rounds of various ammo thru it tonight with no problems whatsoever (and yes, I watched the takedown pin somewhat fearfully the whole time - never moved). Whatever they did to the trigger made a night vs day difference. I think they did some other fine tuning as well. The laser is dialed right in now, where before it was way off right/low & I had not yet adjusted it. They did throw in an extra free magazine, which I think is the least they could do after really disappointing me with a brand new gun that messed up. Very happy with their customer service though. Reminder of why I spent a little extra on the Smith name & warranty I guess. Will report back with any issues as more rounds are put through it. Hope the other issues I'm seeing here clear up. It really is a great little gun.
Glad to hear it's all fixed. I like mine.

I shot my son-in-law's BG380, worst trigger pull I have ever shot. Great package, but I will not purchase, then spend $100+ on a new trigger. Bought a Sig 238. Hoping for a change, as I like S&W products otherwise. Took them years to fix the M&P trigger. Wise up Smith!

My gun was pulling low and right and was a hard pull. I just got back from my favorite gun store (2nd Amendment Sports in Tucson). Roark checked the laser (it was fiarly good but now it's spot on) and fired 6 shots at 30 feet. His pattern was about the size of a quarter! I have big hand and was sticking my finger too far into the guard near the joint. This pulls the weapon low & right. By using the tip (pad) of my finger the pull is light!
Who said an old dog can't learn new tricks! Woo Hoo!

Just got my bg380. Took advantage of the 50 dollar rebate. I also am disappointed with trigger pull. I will be contacting sw.

I had the BG .380 for about two years and never had a problem of any kind. Didn't even mind the long trigger b/c it was similar to a J frame and I shot those for well over 40 years. After two years the little gun developed the dreaded light strike problem, but only w/WWB ammo and only after 100 + rounds at the range. Rather then waiting for the light strike problem to get worse I got the LCP just before the LCP II came on the market and got rid of the BG. It's a shame b/c I really liked the little Smith but reliability is a must in a SD gun.

I feel your pain! I have the same exact problem. Mine has over 1,350 rds through it and is starting to have the Weak Strike Syndrome.

Martybee: You have a choice now, get rid of the gun or send it back to S&W. My M&P340 is my EDC and the LCP fills in when I need something really small, but I after following forums like this I believe there is a diminished return when manufacturers try and make a SD gun this small in anything larger than a .25 acp. A J frame is still the best choice for SD IMHO.

Old cop: Thanks, I intend putting my BG380 up for consignment at my LGS&R. I have the Shield 9 and intend on making it my SD weapon for now! I keep it loaded with Hornady

Have you heard back yet?

Yes, have you heard back and if so, what was their reply?

I purchased this online about 2 weeks ago for my wife. We just got to the range today to shoot. We both love how the pistol feels in our hands and the recoil is not that bad for her or myself. The "bad" of this gun shows up on just the 2nd magazine. She could barely squeeze the trigger to fire the first two rounds of the 2nd magazine and after that just didn't have the strength to continue with it. I took the gun and finished the magazine to verify there was no difference between the two. I continued shooting it to test it with 3 different brands of ammo and it ate them all successfully. I could probably use it even though the trigger pull is atrocious and the trigger pull kept me from holding a descent pattern at just 7 yards. It may be okay if needed within "your space", say 5' or so but I don't think I want a thug getting that close to her. The gun was for my wife's SD, so it is not going to work for her. I sent S&W a message with this noted and got a "ticket" number so we're waiting on those results. I also bought her a M&P Shield and she loved the trigger pull on it and she handled it very well, except for racking the slide. It's a bit on the stiff side for her weak hands, <sigh> so I guess it's back to the drawing board unless she's willing to practice to possibly build strength. But we are both seniors and that could be an issue.
