Just picked up a mint Nickel model 38 today.
Had to pay 350 OTD.
They are a bit tough to find, and it seems like they go for a premium, But I dont know why?
Peter.

Thanks guys.
down here (for some unknown reason) Bodyguards go for a premium.

BTW, MaineProbation, I have a t-shirt that has,I'm a bitter clinger. has 1911 in one hand, Bible in the other. Got it from Gunowners.org

pinned etc. $400. yes, no, or what the hell are you thinking?

That could be a fair price...with a box and some papers. I still think that most J-frames can be had for a number beginning with "3".

$400? Yeah...that sounds about right.

If I had it, I would.

Generally true, but Bodyguards seem to bring a premium. If I wanted one, I'd consider $400.

Model 38, it's nickel, pinned barrel, airweight, Obama's in office - if it's clean, I'd say go for it. Maybe a little high now, but in a year...

In my neck of the woods I haven't seen one any cheaper than that for a clean nickel M38

If you want it, buy it. At the very worst you are "only buying a little early". How many here are seeing pre-lock Smiths dropping in price. I have several J-frames that I paid less than $100. for but that was a heck of a long time ago. Flat out those days are gone never to return. Back to my original statement,If you want it buy it now while you have the opportunity.

A really nice nickel Bodyguard with a pinned barrel would last about ten minutes around here for $400.

If it's in good shape, I surely would buy it. Mine has given me many years of good service - I wouldn't care to have a new one nearly as much.

Bodyguard revolvers cost more because there aren't as many of them floating around. If you really want a Bodyguard then it's worth what you are willing to pay for it. Since the new ones Retail for $600 since the recent price jump and have a internal lock, that's really not such a bad price even though it's not cheap. See if you can get him drop the price enough to cover the transfer and then jump on it!

Thanks guys.
I was wrong, it's not pinned, but is in about 95%
it was a private sale and got it under asking price. I'm happy even tho I haven't had a chance to shoot it.

I bought an early 70s pinned Mod 38 in exc. condition for $400.00 a couple of months back. Carried a little and shot even less. I thought it was a fair deal. Nickled ones seem to go for a little more.

The S&W Model 49 BodyGuard in history, 1968:

General Nguy?n Ng?c Loan executing Nguy?n V?n Lém, a Viet Cong officer with his personal model 49

South Vietnamese sources said that Capt. Lém commanded a Viet Cong assassination platoon, which on that day had targeted South Vietnamese National Police officers or, in their stead, the police officers' families. Photographer Adams confirmed the South Vietnamese account, although he was only present for the execution

This photo won Adams the 1969 Pulitzer Prize for Spot News Photography, though he was later said to have regretted the impact it had. The image became an anti-war icon. Concerning General Nguy?n and his famous photograph, Eddie Adams later wrote in Time:
"The general killed the Viet Cong; I killed the general with my camera. Still photographs are the most powerful weapon in the world. People believe them, but photographs do lie, even without manipulation. They are only half-truths... What the photograph didn't say was, 'What would you do if you were the general at that time and place on that hot day, and you caught the so-called bad guy after he blew away one, two or three American soldiers?"

Eddie Adams later apologized in person to General Loan and his family for the damage it did to his reputation. When General Loan died [1998], Adams praised him as a hero of a just cause: "The guy was a hero. America should be crying. I just hate to see him go this way, without people knowing anything about him."
