Bought the wrong ammo

Or you if you have a .40 cal, chances are you can get a drop in barrel. As long it’s a Sig, S&W M&P (FS or Shield) and maybe a couple others.

I have a friend who bought five boxes of .32 S&W thinking it was .32 ACP. I bought them from him (I have several .32 S&W revolvers).

I have shot .38 Super in a S&W M19. It went bang and put a hole in the target. Larry

SOME brands of .38 Super will chamber in SOME .38 Special/.357 revolvers. And some won't. If they fit, they will fire OK. The noise and recoil actually seem quite mild. The .38 Super bullet diameter is slightly undersized. Sort of like shooting .32 ACP in a .32 S&W Long revolver.

*Update*

When I made the original transaction, the store asked me to fill out an online survey. So I did. I told them that I understood their policy but I did not appreciate being lied to about the federal law.

The district manager called me Monday morning to apologize and insisted that I bring the ammo back and they would exchange it. He said they would not be able to sell it, but that they would donate it to the local police department. Of course the person that told me about the federal law was the one at the return desk when I went back in. It was a little awkward to say the least.

When I bought my 627 V-Comp from Turners, I asked the salesperson for a couple boxes of ammo to bring to the range. One box of 38 Special & one of 357 Mag to get the feel for home defense rounds.
The 357 rounds were Sig Sauer, and being my 1st 357, I didn't know there was a difference.

The next day I ended up in the hospital for 2 months, not realizing that they wouldn't fit until after I got out.

Guess I should have realized that the word magnum was not printed anywhere on the box..

Some brands of .38 Super will chamber in some .357 revolvers. Others may not. I have a friend with a Ruger Security Six which will accept most every brand of .38 Super we've tried. It's all about having a revolver with chambers on the large side of diameter specs with ammo on the small side of specs. If it fits, shoot it. Actually, they seem to be fairly tame loads when fired in a revolver, they are nothing like shooting .357 loads.

Being that you had to fill out paper work and that .357 magnum ammo was probably listed some where in the data, gave you a good reason for the store to have to give you the correct ammo.

You lucked out this time.

Take your time and KNOW what you put on the counter, before paying for it.....
and always make sure that it is rung up correctly.......
plus any discounts.

My wife gave me a "T" shirt......

it has on it........

I'm a senior.......
where my stinking discount !

Later.

357 SIG

Purchase a pistol in .357 Sig caliber !
Problem Solved !

your welcome,
Jimmy (expert in spending other people's money)

My Sig 250C has both barrels. Too bad you arent closer I would take them off your hands. Never hurts to have some factory loadings on hand. :)

Look on the bright side, now you have the perfect excuse to either buy a brand firearm chambered in .357 SIG or convert a .40 S&W to .357 SIG! :D

EDIT: ZOMBIE THREAD

...and you've never bought a gun just to go with the ammo? lol

Like someone mentioned, swap it off at your local gun show. I have done that with new ammo a few times. Bob

If you happen to be a reloader and shoot 40.. you could shoot them out of the 40 and they should neck up so you can resize as 40..:rolleyes:

They sure wouldn't be very accurate...:D
NO, No, no, no, no

It will never blow out, because all of the propellant gases will blow by the .355 projectile in the .401 bore. You need pressure to fire form a cartridge case

Additionally, if it did work, the resulting case would be too long by about .1"

40S&W is not the parent case of 357SIG, they just share a case head

I hate to be the one to inform you but while it's no longer federal law, custom still requires and demands that if you own a box of ammo, you have to buy a gun to shoot it in.

It's what maintains balance in the universe and we're sure don't want the planet wobbling any further off its axis.

Your duty here is clear.

I rarely intercede when I am in somewhere like Cabelas here in Billings, however last hunting season a lady was asking for ammo for her husbands gun.

I clearly heard her say .38 special and the counter man grabbed a box of .38 Super and insisted that they were they same thing!!

I asked the lady if her husbands gun was a revolver or a semi auto.....her answer was it was a Smith & Wesson that was a duty revolver. .......38 special NOT .38 Super.

She was thankful that she did not get the wrong thing as it was NOT returnable and insisted on the clerk getting a box of .38 SPECIAL.......

Makes you wonder how often this very scene plays out every day ...
