Bubba was here....now what??

If it were mine, not being a gunsmith or metallurgist...

I would tap the holes to a known fine or extra-fine thread. I'd make screw-in plugs that bind in the threads with a taper. The screws would extend past the frame on both sides. Then mill the screws flush on both sides. I would take a little off the bottom of the top strap to clean it up a bit. The plugs if installed correctly will be nearly invisible with the naked eye.

Then just locate the proper location for the front screw. Drill and tap it with the correct size.

Install the sight and enjoy it!

If I had it I would try something else just for the fun of it. I would clean out all the holes with MEK then fill all the holes with Belzona 1111. Industrial strength JB weld. On the front hole I would first stick a piece of wax paper between barrel extension and frame the place. Then take a front sight screw and wax the threads on it and press it it the Belzona in the front hole. Wait 24 hours, remove screw. Carefully clean up excess Belzona with safed files and 220 grit backed by small pieces of metal. Install sight. I wouldn't depend on it to save my life unless I had to, but, I bet that Belzona would stay there forever unless terribly abused. I have seen it used to repair shafts and other stuff. It is some tough stuff. I have some of it in the shop and have used it for some interesting projects. I think it would do fine holding the front sight screw. Remember rear of sight it held by screw head in the slot. If you wanted you could just fill the hole then drill and tap it as Belzona machines well. Oh,, it also retains its strength until almost 400f and at that point the gun would be kind of hard to handle anyway.

good info

I plan on doing this with the help of my friend who has a small shop at his house.

The son has around $530 in the gun so once I get a sight on it I believe he might just want to sell it...

Hopefully I'll figure something out here during my time off work.

I figure I can't do any worse than the original Bubba....

Update 06/13/20

Well thanks to a fellow forum member who had the rear sight assembly for sale & a big shout out to Hondo44 and those who offered advice.... the gun is back together.

Decided just to plug the first hole and leave the others alone.

Drilled & tapped.

I found a set of targets to put on it and will be refinishing them this weekend.

I believe my son will be keeping this hog leg now instead of selling it:D:D
