Burglary last night

UPDATE!!

California DOJ sent me a packet to fill out and return in order for them to return my M&P 9mm Pro that was recovered at the scene of a car crash.

The young man plead guilty to interstate transportation of a loaded stolen firearm....sentenced to (I think) 18 months in prison.....

Will probably be released due to Covid 19..

Only one still held in evidence and that's my Dad's K-38 service revolver. At least I know where it's located!

8 to go at this point.

I will say that CHP (Needles) office has been very professional and a delight to work with!

I am totally shocked and amazed that 3 have been recovered so far....didn't expect to see any of them.

One can only hope that carelessness will lead to the others.

No mention has been made how the thieves opened the garage door. Was the door open/closed, locked /unlocked to start with? Most people don't realize that the safety cord with the plastic red handle on the electric garage door opener, hanging just inside the windows of a locked garage door is a rapid entry tool to get the door open. The glass in the door is broken and reaching in, the red handle is pulled, disengaging the garage door from the opener so it can be lifted by hand.

Loop/tie the safety handle rope to some firm supporting mechanism so that any pulls/tugs on the rope only tighten the knot and NOT unlatches the garage door from the opening track. Make sure all family members are aware of the change and know how to undo what was done so in an emergency, the dor can be opened. Just glance at the door safety rope when you go into the garage to ensure some "family friend" hasn't undone your efforts.

I had remarkably drama free dealings with Riverside PD when a gun being shipped escaped from its packaging. However, CA law being what it is, expect to have to pay a CA dealer to get your gun shipped back.

Why would I have to pay a California dealer when it is being shipped from one Law Enforcement Agency to another NOT from one FFL to another FFL?

There was no mention of such in the DOJ packet that was sent and I filled out and returned.

You are fortunate indeed, and I wish you luck with the remaining missing firearms. All I ask is that, upon receipt of the firearms, you please confirm or refute the persistent urban legend that police engrave the case evidence number on the barrel or side plates . . .

All I can say is that is the way Riverside insisted it be done. Needles PD may be more relaxed as they are closer to the civilized world. ;)

Ideas!

My best friend and I have an agreement: I wrote down the serial numbers and models of firearms and made a copy. I placed it in a sealed envelope and asked him to place it in his gun vault. I did the same for him. This way i have a list of my firearms and in case he loses his, ive got a copy...... A buddy of mine stated I could buy a USB drive, take photos of me holding the firearm, recording the serial and model numbers, with dates and times. He said I could then hide the USB drive somewhere secure, just in case the worst happened. his reasoning was that if my firearms were ever taken: I had photographic proof.
Some of my old shotguns have a hollow tube in the stock, I place my business cards in there, you just never know!

case number

I can tell you that the 1911 returned from Texas was NOT marked with any case number, the California Highway Patrol told me that they no longer do this, I will see upon it's return.

Seems like this was a popular practice years ago and has since been stopped.

Will keep you posted.
