Not sure where this post should be put. I was wondering if anyone has made a purchase at Salt Lake Collectibles? Nice stuff, just curious. How do you feel their prices fall? Thanks

Yes, although I've watched a lot more sell than I've bought. Agree with "nice stuff" although the prices are usually pretty high. Too high for me most of the time. Listed prices often seem to be 20%+ higher than what I think should be the market price but everything seems to sell eventually. . . . .

In the category of for what it's worth, George (Salt Lake Collectibles) is a pretty savvy guy---as in been there and done that. His background is such that he knows the market for high end merchandise.

I have had dealings with them. Good stuff. No bargains, but like Ralph says, he knows what he has and it will be what he says it is.

Interestingly, I lost a gun to him at a GB auction. A few months later he put it up, and I was the high bidder....at less than the winning bid in the original action. Happens to me sometimes too

I've bought a few items

From SLC. As was basically said
You get what you pay for. For what you buy the prices are fair.

I would add that George is a great guy to do business with. On multiple occasions I've emailed him over a weekend about an item for sale on GI and he would call me immediately to say he would mark it sold and then just call during week to pay for it.

I lost out on a nice early 2 digit TL on GB to George too. Lol

Several of my most treasured revolvers came from SLC.

Not to be redundant, but an OLD, OOOOOOOOOLD saying just popped into mind that says it all-------------"It only costs a little more to go first class!"

It's been a good while, long before there even was a Salt Lake Collectibles---back when I was given to refer to George as "the sight guy". I had a rather special gun---a NM #3 Target that lettered as a "special order for a single unit". That which was special was the caliber, not 32-44 or 38-44 S&W, but "38 WINCHESTER CTG", which was stamped right on the barrel. Some dummy who shall remain nameless to protect the guilty installed the latch (without the sight insert installed), and closed the barrel. The sequence of events which occurred go thus: The (now) unsupported latch tangs came into contact with the barrel catch cam (and its VERY stout little spring)----and given the lack of support, they bent. They bent into the only space available---that where the sight carrier tang should have been----but wasn't. Then, being made of the best steel available at the time, they broke----SNAP!!

PANIC REIGNED SUPREME!!!!

This tale has a happy ending---the dummy who was responsible for all this was successful in coming up with a WIZARD gunsmith who fixed it, but along the way his primary fear was what if I can't-----where the hell am I going to come up with a latch/sight assembly for a NM #3 Target?!! I need a fall-back position if all else fails.

George to the rescue. He came up with a complete, virtually as new, latch/sight assembly. I can't even imagine how he pulled that off, but he did------and a calm, peaceful aura came over the land!!

Thanks for the feedback all. Sounds like it's time to hold off on something nice and save up a bit more for something really nice.

I have purchased 2 or 3 revolvers from George. I thought the prices were very fair and George was a stand up guy to deal with. He seems to have quality guns.

Like the feedback all, thanks again. Once my moose hunt is nailed down cost wise I will be able to go into a purchase from SLC feeling confident on what I will receive. Thanks to you all who responded and to this forum.Appreciate it.

George from Salt Lake Collectibles

I received a purchase from George a few days ago which I had forgotten about(not a gun)! In the package was a hand written note with his apology for being late. "I had spine surgery and it's been a slow road coming back"!
I was very impressed with his handling of this sale and would like to wish him the best in his recovery!
