Buying not knowing what I am doing

First welcome to one of the nicest gun forums on the net.

Don't know what your buying?

Heck a lot of us don't too, LOL

BUT really they help everyone out here, welcome to the world of smith & Wesson.

For some reason many on this forum haven't figured this out yet!

What's strange is the SCSW will list ship dates that come AFTER the actual real world observed ship dates. Often times by up to a year. If those are in fact "assembly dates", are you saying S&W is assembling guns AFTER they've shipped? I'd like to know how that's even possible. Time machine, maybe?

I ain't got nothing to say about the gun. Others have said it already. I'll just say "welcome aboard." Pull up a chair, sit on the floor. Make yourself at home. Coffee will be ready in a bit.

Gotta watch this bunch. Some of 'em will tell a...well, let's just say "a tall tale" on ya.

Welcome Padre.

I love my Model 60. It's not my lightest J frame, but it's the softest shooting one I've ever used. So much so, that it's fun at the range.

The LS is a great version.

Surprised no one has mentioned fired shell casing date. Typically if one is included in the box, I will check that figuring that's got to be as close to manufacturing date as possible.

Hi Packin' Preacher:

Welcome to the flock, er, uh Forum. I'm surprised no one has mentioned it yet, but among many, the Model 60-7 is considered the finest version of the Model 60 line. It has the wider front sight blade, it's been heat treated to fire the +P .38 Special ammo, and it's built on a non-magnum frame. Some guys don't like to carry guns with the "Ladysmith" engraving on it, but that doesn't bother me a bit. I once bought a used Model 60-7 (non-Ladysmith version) at a good price and traded it to a fellow Forum member for a CZ-75B. While it was a very good trade, I do often regret the loss of the little Model 60-7 and hope to replace it one day.

By the way, I had Crimson Trace LG-405 laser grips on my Model 60-7 which my wife and I both enjoyed. If your wife doesn't like or want laser grips, the Hogue rubber grips are a good alternative, but makes the overall size of the handgun larger.

Best of luck,

Dave

WELCOME to the FORUM, from Ohio. You become very quickly by visiting this site! Many fine people here! It will take practice to get used to a 2" barrel. Hope she enjoys it! Bob

The FC is great for nailing down a ship date, if you can get it, but the practice of including a FC was not widely adopted until 2001.

Typically, the FC date and the Spec. Ord. date code will be the exact same day. At most, the FC date will be two day's later. I'm guessing those are guns built late on Friday, shot and shipped on Monday. I've seen guns for sale on GB where the FC date is only three days prior to the auction start date.

I bet she will like it. I bought my wife a 60-7 ladysmith a couple weeks ago for her birthday. I was a little worried about her handeling it as she is rather small and it is her first handgun so I had her shoot my 101 first. She tried the 60 next and hit 4 out of 5 on a 12 inch steel plate at 14 yards . She really liked it and said the recoil didn't bother too much. This was only the third time she has fired a handgun. I liked it also, they are a nice revolver.

Hey Robert!

I assume that there is only one Packin' Preacher in the world. Congrats on the gun. Please bring it to next month's IDPA match so that I can drool all over it (unless Ryan cancels three in a row!).

Please excuse me if there are two Packin' Preachers in the world and I'm addressing the "other one." If so, congrats on your gun and welcome to the Forum!

Jeffrey

WELCOME TO THE FORUM, Packin Preacher. AS YOU CAN SEE BY Daves RESPONSE, YOU MADE AN EXCELLENT CHOICE OF FIREARM FOR YOUR WIFE. I WOULD LIKE TO ENDORSE Dave's SUGGESTION OF THE ADDITION OF CRIMSON TRACE LASER GIPS TO HER REVOLVER. THE LG-405 MODEL HAS A CUSHIONED BACKSTRAP AREA, WHICH REALLY ABSORBS RECOIL. IT WILL MAKE HER EXPERIENCE WITH THE REVOLVER MORE PLEASANT, AND THE LASER WILL BOOST HER CONFIDENCE, IN THAT SHE WILL BE HITTING WHATEVER SHE LAYS THAT RED DOT ON--FROM DAY ONE--NO BIG LEARNING CURVE INVOLVED. BELOW IS MY 642--A J FRAME LIKE THE LADY SMITH, WEARING WEARING THE CT LG-405s. ITS A FANTASTIC COMBO FOR PERSONAL PROTECTION…..
