Does anybody buy tires online? Is it worth it? If so, where do you prefer to shop? I've been looking for new tires for my Dakota for about a year now but haven't come across a price I'm happy with. It's not my daily driver so there is no rush.

Thanks,
Ski

I buy online from Sam's Club, saved me over a $100 on a set of the same brand and type from a local dealer.

I have, twice now, but I actually only order them on-line then go to the chain Tire
Store about 5 miles away, which is where they are delivered, to get them installed.

By doing it this way I can do better "compare shopping"
and get the benefits of other customer reviews.

Also I know that the tires I want will be "in stock" so I won't be subjected
to the bait & switch, sales pitch, trying to get me into a higher priced set
of tires because the ones I want aren't in stock at that time.

I bought a set online a couple of years ago. The tire dealer could not get the brand that I wanted and he charged me $20 a tire to install. It was still cheaper than buying local even if I could have found the brand I was looking for.

If you have a good place to get them installed. That can range between $5-50/tire. I have bought tires from Tire Rack.com a couple of times.

Where ya at in PA?

I've been dealing with Creamery Tire for 30yrs and have never found anyone to beat their prices. Their quoted price is out the door too. No added fees for mounting , balancing , new valve stems , etc.

They mounted & balanced 4 Cooper 265/85/16 Discoverer ATRs on my Silverado for $500. New valve stems included.

If ya buy tires online , yer probably gonna get reamed taking it to a shop and asking them to mount/balance them unless ya have or know someone with mounting and balancing machines.

I've done it when I got the tires and wheels together. I don't think its worth it otherwise.

I have had good luck from DiscountTireDirect--plus if order through Cabelas Bonus Points Network you get 6% back in Cabelas points. Earned quite a bit back when I ordered a set for my truck, and still got them cheaper than the large tire dealers locally.

Ive been buying from tire rack for years but i have a discount as i order through my job. Only time i dont is if or when i can get cheaper from the junk yard.

I bought tires on line once - never again!

First they sent me the wrong ones, then when they sent the correct ones, but one was incapable of being properly balanced (out of round) and had to go back. Unfortunately I found that out after they mounted and tried to balance it. It was a major P.I.T.A. and by the time I finished it actually cost me more than it would have from the local tire store.

I buy lots of stuff on line and yes you can save money, but I learned my lesson about not doing when it comes to tires.

I've probably bought over 50 tires plus a bunch of wheels from The Tire Rack. Their prices are great and service is flawless. My wife's car is wearing a set from them right now.

I have wondered about buying them online. How do the tire places like it when you bring in tires you bought elsewhere? I would think they would charge you a lot to install them?

Here I bought these someplace else can you put them on?

I have bought from the Tire Rack also, on several occasions, and will likely continue to buy from them. I like their large selection, and the many, many reviews they post on their site which give you a good idea of what others have experienced with any given model tire. I had problems with a tire or two, and they took care of it promptly and without a hassle.

Rule,

There are shops around here that don't sell tires but install them. I utilize one just a block away which doesn't charge much.

I've done it twice, and brought the tires to a big national tire chain. They didn't gouge me, they charged the normal rate.
I guess nowadays, work is work.

I guess but the guys around here are so busy putting tires on NY, Ohio and Michigan cars they can barely fit the locals in:D;)

I just bought 35" tires for my truck from ebay, $960 delivered and $40 mounted and balanced, Local shop wanted $1300 for tires installed.. So $300 is a good chunk of change..
