I did a search on model 41's and your name came up a lot. I just bought a used model 41 with a serial number of 716xx it came with a extra 7" barrel that is missing the rear sight can you tell me the DOB and help me identify the right sight for this barrel and does it appear to be of the same period as the pistol. Thanks

As per Joni, it is the later S&W pistol type rear site. The middle hole in the slot is for the site and the other two are for fitting a site base - Weaver 62 or other. S&W may be able to tell you which pistol site would work. I do not have extras of this rear site. Possibly Brownell??

I had a 5 1/2 inch heavy barrel model with that same rear sight, but have never seen the 7 inch version until now. I have the same barrel only the 7 inch heavy barrel, it lacks the radius along the top side, making it a bit heavier than what you have, this was never released.

Guess I should have looked at S&W (Supica) book. He shows the Millet started in 94 so '98 makes sense for the S&W pistol site period. Not a lot of them produced from what I have seen, but 41 production has been slow for several years. I collect the newer bbls only for illustration of changes, so no frames to date by. It was not much better than the Millet in my opinion, but I am prejudice to the 52 type rear site.
