We are buying a travel trailer, planning to stay at private campgrounds and national parks. Looking for storage suggestions for my M&P. Thought about taking my nightstand safe but hoping the Forum can provide suggestions from experienced campers who carry.

I'd use the same car safe already cabled to my vehicle seat frame for the rare times I'd not be CC'ing, unless I was camping with minor children, then take one of the extra cable safes for the trailer.

Under my pillow or on my person.

But if I want I have locations around my trailer I can hide guns. Like behind the water heater or behind the ac unit and a few other out of the way hiding spots.

When traveling in my motorhome I keep my CCW in an old locking bank bag which is then stashed somewhere out of site in the MH.
Just a thought keep in mind other states laws in reference to CC. I always check the state I’m traveling too and the route I’m taking.

If I didn't already have a small gunvault with the cable to secure it to a fixed object, I'd go to Harbor Freight and get one of their .37 cubic feet safes for around $37 ($30 after 20% off coupon) and bolt it down somewhere solid in the camper.

They're big enough to hold medications and cash/credit cards, jewelry, etc. along with a pistola or two.

Or you can get one of the .71 cubic feet units - twice as big - for $60 ($48 after 20% off coupon)

But doesn't that just make it easier for thief to identify where all the goodies are?

cSure, but anything that secures your valuables is going to be obvious as to what it is, if they have time to find it. Same for one of the cabled gunvaults. Same for your gunsafe at home.

Bolt it down securely somewhere out of sight in a closet or cabinet and that's about the best you can hope to do. At worst it will slow them down too much for them to have the time to get into it.

When we travel our guns our on our person, when sleeping in the trailer they are next to the bed. If for some reason we must leave them behind we store them in our truck locked in our Hornady lock box. RV's are so easy to break into, a large screwdriver will jimmy just about any entrance door. Much safer in a vehicle. We use Hangungunlaw.us for up to date State laws and seldom travel to States with unfriendly gun laws (CA, OR, WA on the West Coast).

This also comes in handy:
NRA-ILA | Firearms Regulations in National Parks

Google RV Forums, there is lots of info there as well.

I can see what you're saying - if you have a loud car alarm maybe.
Otherwise a thief can get into your vehicle just as quick and easy as into your camper. A softball sized rock with take out a vehicle window even quicker than a screwdriver will jimmy a camper door, won't it? BTW, you can put a loud alarm in your camper too - just like in your car.

The rare occasions where it’s not in my pocket, it’s on the nightstand next to the bed. And BTW, we love our TT and use it 6-8 times a year! Good luck with your purchase!

In the early fall of 2016 my wife and I left Maine for a 2 month National Park tour towing our T@B teardrop trailer. We traveled all the way to the left coast, camping at Federal, state and private campgrounds. I have a Maine CCW, and carried a Model 29 4” .44 in part because we intended to flyfish in some remote locations known to be frequented by grizzlies in the west, but also to protect us from the two legged critters.
Because we were forced to travel and sometimes camp in Communist states I kept two locked ammo boxes in the trailer, one for the gun, one for ammo. These were hidden in a hidy hole behind the toilet when we were in gun unfriendly states (except at night). Rest of the trip the gun was in the console of our SUV.

Despite having NRA Life Member decals and Registered Maine Guide stickers on the car and trailer the only problem during the trip was at Hoover Dam. Can’t enter with a gun in your car or camper, however the police told us a secure location we could park the camper a couple of miles from the dam so we still got to do the tour. By the way these officers were very polite.

We traveled thru 24 states over two months putting on 11,300 miles. Wonderful trip everyone should try and do AND if you do go don’t forget your shootin’ iron.

Thanks Capt. F. We will be in a number of South Eastern State this year and maybe Indiana and PA. Next year looking at Rockies and Yellowstone.
Full Size M&P and Shield.
